The former president of Rouen Football Club has been stabbed to death in the centre of the French city.

Pascal Darmon, who now runs a wine business, died from his wounds after being attacked by an unnamed man.

Police at the scene in Rue Alsace-Lorraine said there was 'no known motive' and that the alleged perpetrator was arrested soon afterwards.

'He tried to escape, and fled to a nearby apartment, but was soon taken in to custody,' said an investigating source.

Contrary to the first information we received, it was not a shooting. The suspect entered the wine cellar and reportedly fatally stabbed the owner of the premises in the throat. The victim was formally identified as the former president of the Rouen football club.

At a press conference, the public prosecutor of the Republic of Rouen confirmed that the victim had received several stab wounds. The suspect then took refuge in a neighboring apartment, his home, before being arrested without resistance by the anti-crime brigade. He was placed in police custody for intentional homicide.At least one other person was reportedly injured during the attack.

Thank you for the updates ZaZara it's a terrible tragedy. May Mr. Darmon Rest In Peace. I'm glad this incident doesn't appear to be terrorism.

The man ultimately yielded no resistance when he was arrested by the Anti-Crime Brigade (LAC). And although we still do not know the reasons for the murder of Pascal Darmon, we know a little more about the identity of the aggressor. He is aged 32 years and was born in Ivory Coast. The man was so far unknown to the police.

After being placed in police custody, the alleged murderer of the president of the RCF from 2005 to 2012 was transferred to a psychiatric facility. He will undergo extensive tests to determine his mental health status. The lead of an act by an unbalanced person appears therefore to be considered. According to Europe 1, a handgun would have been discovered at his home.
