According to court documents, deputies from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of possible human remains on May 5.

The deputies located the suspected remains in a parcel one mile away from Brooks Road along the railroad tracks in an area owned by Western Pacific Timer, LLC. They identified the remains as a human skull.

Court documents state the Deputy Medicolegal Examiner and the Spokane County Medical Examiner responded to the scene and found the skull had discoloration consistent with recent flesh decomposition. Authorities also found a piece of bone missing from the back/base area of the skull.

Authorities said the missing part of the skull was consistent with having been broken out rather than having been displaced by an animal.

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide after a human skull was found along with some other remains in a wooded area near Medical Lake. According to court documents, on May 3rd, a turkey hunter called 911 believing he had stumbled upon human remains.

Deputies with the Spokane County Sheriff's Office responded and found a human skull approximately one mile west of Brooks Rd. along the railroad tracks and about two hundred yards south of the railroad tracks.

The skull discoloration was consistent with recent flesh decomposition. A piece of bone missing from the base area of the skull was also found and was consistent with having been broken rather than removed by an animal. A piece of decomposing human flesh was also found within one foot of the skull. During a search warrant SCSO detectives also located clothing and even more human remains.

The forested area and parcel where the remains were found is owned by Western Pacific Timber, LLC who lease the property for farming. The property manager confirmed with deputies that the area is also commonly used for hunting and other recreational activities by people without permission from the land owners.

Authorities say the area where the remains and other evidence were found is in a remote area that is hidden from usual public traffic.

Not sure if it's misread or misstated. At first I thought it said the foot was in the skull. But apparently the flesh was that close to the skull. It's not easy to figure out.

In any case, if there's flesh left, we're talking months, not years. Possibly only weeks.
 
The only person that is coming to mind is RIco Harris. He was headed for Washington and went missing 2014, not sure if flesh would still be evident this many years.

The exact location of the crime scene was not released to the public so that only the perpetrators of the crime, people the perpetrators may have discussed their activities with and the investigators of the crime would know the exact location.

It is not uncommon for perpetrators of violent crime to return to the scene to destroy, move, or hide evidence or even view the evidence they left behind. The Spokane County Sheriff's Office therefore also issued a warrant for covert camera systems to be installed in hopes of capturing possible photographic and video evidence of anyone involved who may have returned to the scene.

I have a photo of the skull that was found in this case. Unfortunately, the skull is obliterated below the midface, All that is left is the upper half of skull above the midpoint of the nasal aperture, including the cheekbones, and one upper molar on the right side.

From my limited anthropology knowledge, and the limitation of seeing only one photo, I am saying that based on the absence of a brow ridge and sharp edged upper margins of the orbits, this person is likely female. Based on the tented nasal bone, likely Caucasion or possibly Hispanic or Native American. This Doe has a tall and moderately broad nasal aperture and prominent cheekbones.

The anthropologists haven't made a ruling on the Doe's Age, Race, and Gender though, and since they know their subject better than I do, don't take my word as gospel.
 
Based on Carl's speculations, do we know if anyone (wife, gf?) is missing from the nearby Fairchild AFB?

I also note there is a hotel and casino resort nearby, as well as I-90, but it seems the deposit site would probably only be known to those who are fairly local.

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is investigating a death after crews discovered human remains a few miles west of Fairchild Air Force Base.

That discovery happening days after a man found a human jawbone in his front yard. The property owner believes his dog fetched the jawbone from nearby woods.

Detectives were notified and crews searched the surrounding area. A cadaver dog located a pair of pants close to the man's house near west Thorpe road, with intact human leg bones inside.

In May, a turkey hunter discovered a human skull in a wooded area nearby. Crews searched that area and found pieces of clothing, arm bones, and part of a foot.

The Sheriff's Office could not comment on the discovery, or confirm if the remains belong to the same person since the investigation is ongoing.

It sounds like it, IMO, that's why I posted the new article here instead of starting a new thread. It's possible that the remains were scattered by animal activity. JMO.

Exactly what I was thinking. Oh well, one good thing is that the landowners probably won't have to worry about any more unauthorized uses of their property for others' questionable "recreational" activities now that people are aware at least.
 
Often that statement is released to reassure the neighbors that something is being done to keep them from being murdered in their own back yards.

I don't know about anyone from the military base, but Deanne Hastings has been missing from Spokane for about 18 months https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/32345/516. Too long for the tentative estimate?
