In China, the water you drink is as dangerous as the air you breathe
Friday 2 June 2017 08.47 EDT Last modified on Friday 2 June 2017 11.20 EDT
Shanghai, with its chic cafes, glitzy shopping malls and organic health food shops, is emblematic of improving quality of life for China’s urban middle class. Yet while the city’s veil of smog has lifted slightly in recent years, its water pollution crisis continues unabated – 85% of the water in the city’s major rivers was undrinkable in 2015, according to official standards, and 56.4% was unfit for any purpose.
These findings come from our new water quality report, which found water pollution levels in China’s other major cities are also extremely high.

I lived and worked in two Asian Countries when I was younger and no one drank the water, then or now, but that led to another horrific problem of discarded plastic water bottles all over the place, feet deep in places and blocking canals and waterways.

Trump Administration Orders Review Of Sage Grouse Protections
    June 8, 2017 - 7:37 PM ET
Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke has announced that regulations protecting the sage grouse – rules which have been subject to years of negotiation and controversy in Western states – are once again under review.
This puts the Greater Sage Grouse Conservation plan, finalized in 2015, in a state of flux.
Zinke stressed that the Trump administration wants to see improvement in the bird's conservation, but also wants to make sure that state agencies are "heard on this issue." He said that possible modifications would take into account "local economic growth and job creation."

Trump administration to review a controversial plan to manage sage grouse
    June 7, 2017
The Trump administration announced Wednesday that it will review a massive and controversial federal plan to protect the dwindling population of greater sage grouse in 11 western states.
But the greater sage grouse population is estimated to have fallen by as much as 90 percent because of industrial mining, oil and gas drilling, and other disturbances in the mineral-rich sage sea in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, Oregon and Washington. The health of sage grouse is an indication of the health of the sagebrush, which hundreds of animals depend on.
