Ron Rannels, 70, also lives on Village Road, and described the family as "very nice."

“I’ll tell you it’s really tough. They were so nice. She was very nice. Everybody got along with them,” Rannels said.

He recalled seeing the dad pulling the two kids down the street in a wagon, stopping by his house to pick flowers for their mother.

One adult woman and two children were found dead with gunshot wounds inside a burning Strasburg Township home Tuesday morning, according to Brett Hambright, Lancaster County District Attorney's office spokesman.

Fire crews went to 1433 Village Road around 3 a.m. for a report of a fire and found three people dead inside a bedroom of the house, according to Strasburg Fire Company Chief John Stoltzfus.

"We consider this a homicide investigation with multiple victims," Hambright said.

State police are on scene investigating the three "suspicious" deaths, according to Trooper James Spencer.

The fire struck the property in two places, a detached garage and one room of the house, Stoltzfus said. From the street, the garage was heavily damaged and still smoking. Slight smoke damage was visible on the front of the home, a yellow ranch house.

If the fire was set in 2 places, someone was sure trying to destroy evidence! This is so horrible!
 
Fire officials say that during the initial search of the home firefighters found three bodies locked in a back bedroom.

The family dog was also killed. Was he protective of the children?

Why would someone in murder-suicide also burn down house? The mother must have had a deep-seated hostility against the father to destroy everything--his family and all of their possessions. Also motive for killing family dog, maybe.

In a murder, normally a fire is set to conceal the true cause of death of the victims. But, there have been a couple of cases here where the perpetrator of a murder-suicide does set a fire before killing himself.

We were posting at the same time! If this wasn't a murder-suicide, then how was the bedroom door locked from the inside? Is there a key so someone can lock the door from the outside? Was a window open/partially open in the bedroom?

I'm leaning towards this being a homicide and not a murder suicide. If the mother was the shooter, I imagine the gun was found right next to her in the home. If that's the case, I hope LE will release that info to the public to calm fears.

This is the statement that made me think it is a m-s. But, is the reporter making the judgment that it appears to be a m-s or is that what officials actually said? It's really not clear.

I didn't see anything about the recovery of a gun. True, if the gun is missing then the mother isn't the perpetrator. But, if there was a gun next to her body, it could either be her or someone else.

But, if true the 3 bodies were in a locked bedroom poses another problem if not an m-s. Why would a killer lock the door if he's already killed all of the people in the house and plans to burn down the house?

Police found a handgun by Arnau's body, which she purchased the day before, said Lancaster County District attorney Craig Stedman at a news conference at state police headquarters in East Lampeter Township. He also described the fires as intentionally set, but said more work was necessary to confirm that Arnau's gun fired the fatal shots and determining who set the fire.

Carola Arnau filed for divorce in February 2016, after 10 years of marriage. The divorce was apparently never finalized.

On Feb. 24 of this year, Carola Arnau filed for a Protection From Abuse order against Miguel Arnau, but then filed to discontinue it April 4.

A mother who was in the process of getting a divorce shot dead her two young children as they slept and then herself before the bodies were found in their burning Pennsylvania home.

Dr Stephen Diamantoni, the Lancaster County coroner, ruled the deaths of 40-year-old Carola Arnau and her two children a murder-suicide after autopsies Wednesday morning.

He says Arnau shot her 10-year-old daughter multiple times in the head and her four-year-old son multiple times in the body before putting a bullet in her own head.
 
this makes the current political wrangling seem so silly and pointless IMO. This is what life is about - people and connections and why this kind of tragedy continues to happen. So sad for all involved, even the mom, who thought this was an option for anything. So very very sad.

I wonder if an infavorable decision related to this recent filing may have had something to do with this:

"Custody Petition filed by Husband - April 2017:"

So many times when divorces happen a terrible event occurs many months after the initial filing. As the divorce proceeds along at a snails pace in the courts I have to wonder if the delays in the proceedings somewhat contribute to peoples emotional breakdown.

Lawyers and judges work at the courts and delays are part of the process but regular folk are not used to long delays in getting things finalized. It has to take a toll on people and some may not be able to handle it the longer it goes on.

In this case I have to wonder if a ruling was fixing to happen regarding custody that she did not like.

If it wasnt that then surely the long delay in trying to finalize the divorce took a toll. Sometimes I think judges should just grant the divorce quickly and let people go their own way.

With him living in the garage likely until the divorce was finalized that was not a good thing at all IMO.

So sad.
