The death of the Islamic State kingpin would be a huge step towards wiping out the terror group, but as yet reports he has been killed remain unconfirmed.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Dead?: There Were False Reports Before

Be aware, though, that the reports of the ISIS leader’s demise are coming from the Syrian government.

Bashar Al Assad’s government would benefit from reports of Al-Baghdadi’s death – even if they were not true – as the regime insists it’s trying to crack down on ISIS militants as part of its crushing of the rebel insurgency.

Another big caution: There have been reports about Al-Baghdadi’s demise before. They weren’t true. He’s a cat with nine lives. However, there were also reports that Al-Baghdadi was an increasingly isolated figure as the Coalition forces picked off his upper echelon one-by-one. Time will tell in relation to the June 10 reports.

American media and the U.S. government had yet to confirm them.

No doubt Abu Bkr al-Baghdadi's time will come and I hope we will all be around to witness it. So let's keep this thread open.

Is the leader of ISIS dead? Syrian state TV 'claims Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been killed in an airstrike'... but the terrorist leader has survived previous reports of his demise

Syrian state television has claimed the world's most wanted terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been killed in an airstrike, according to several reports.

It's not, however, the first time the leader of ISIS has been reported dead - the latest claims have been met with skepticism by many experts and could well turn out to be untrue.

It would certainly be in the interests of the Assad regime to claim that the world's most wanted terrorist had been killed to provide it with a short -term propaganda victory.

Meanwhile, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says 13 civilians have been killed in coalition air raids in Raqqa over the past 24 hours.

RUSSIA'S MILITARY SAYS MAY HAVE KILLED IS LEADER BAGHDADI

MOSCOW - Russia's Defense Ministry said on Friday it was checking information that a Russian air strike near the Syrian city of Raqqa may have killed Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in late May, Russian news agencies reported.

The air strike, targeted a meeting of IS leaders and was carried out on May 28, the agencies cited the ministry as saying.

"According to the information which is now being checked via various channels, Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who was eliminated by the air strike, was also present at the meeting," RIA news agency quoted the ministry as saying.

Where is 'Islamic State' leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi?

On the third anniversary of Baghdadi's first - and last public - public appearance, IS no longer controls most of the land it once held. Its leader has been conspicuously silent since addressing followers in a recorded audio message last November, after the battle to dislodge the group from Mosul began.

Amid this silence, unconfirmed reports of Baghdadi's death have recently surfaced. Russia's deputy foreign minister said it was "highly likely" Baghdadi was killed in a Russian air force strike on Raqqa on 28 May, and an Iranian official asserted last week that he was "definitely dead". However, both claims were questioned by American officials.

Baghdadi, unlike other jihadist leaders, tends to speak or appear only when there is an extreme need for it - as seen with the announcement of the caliphate and the appeal to followers to stand and fight in Mosul.

"The leader of Isis’ Afghanistan branch has been killed by a US air strike, according to the Pentagon, as the destruction of the jihadists continues across the Middle East and Asia.

Abu Sayed was killed in an air strike at the group's headquarters in Kunar province earlier this week, Pentagon spokeswomen Dana White said in a statement.

Tuesday's raid also killed other members of Isis and would "significantly disrupt the terror group's plans to expand its presence in Afghanistan", the statement added."

Exclusive: Islamic State leader Baghdadi almost certainly alive - Kurdish security official

July 17, 2017 / 4:52 PM

A top Kurdish counter-terrorism official said on Monday he was 99 percent sure that Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was alive and located south of the Syrian city of Raqqa, after reports that he had been killed.

"Baghdadi is definitely alive. He is not dead. We have information that he is alive. We believe 99 percent he is alive," Lahur Talabany told Reuters in an interview.

Isis leader believed to have fled coup attempt by his own fighters

... Isis leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, survived a coup attempt last month launched by foreign fighters in his eastern Syrian hideout, intelligence officials believe, and the terrorist group has since placed a bounty on the main plotter’s head.

The incident is believed to have taken place on 10 January in a village near Hajin in the Euphrates River valley, where the jihadist group is clinging to its last sliver of land.
Regional intelligence officials say a planned move against Baghdadi led to a firefight between foreign fighters and the fugitive terrorist chief’s bodyguards, who spirited him away to the nearby deserts.

If Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is indeed staying in the last sliver of ISIS territory, any time soon he will come walking out with his hands in the air.

And pigs will fly.

The leader of the Islamic State militant network is believed to be dead after being targeted by a US military raid in north-west Syria.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of a self-declared caliphate, is thought to have detonated his own suicide vest during the targeted raid on his lair in Syria's Idlib province.

Officials say confirmation that the ISIS chief was killed in the explosion is pending, with President Trump is set to make a 'major statement' at the White House at 1pm on Sunday (GMT).

The ISIS leader has been among U.S. and Europe's force's most wanted figures since his chilling call to arms in 2014, which saw a shift away from the mass casualty attacks carried out by al-Qaeda in favour of smaller-scale acts of violence.

Dead once again!

Would be nice if this time it was for real.

If the news is correct, the leader of ISIS was living in a village near the Turkish border, and under the protection of Turkey.

Other news still mentions 'pending DNA identification' and the devil is usually in these tiny details.
