Is there no confirmation that the shooter is the same guy that asked DeSantis if it was Republicans or Democrats on the field?

    50-100 shots fired.

    Scalise is in stable condition.

Alexandria schools on lockdown-- they're in school till end of this week. I'm about 3 miles from where it happened. Lots of helicopters.

Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., told Fox News he left just before the shooting. As he walked to his car, a man asked DeSantis if it was Republicans or Democrats practicing. About three minutes later, at around 7:15 a.m. the shooting began, DeSantis said. It reportedly last about 10 minutes.

Rep. Brad Wenstrup told Fox News he "felt like I was in Iraq but without my weapon." Sen. Jeff Flake said the congressional group were "sitting ducks."

"Without the Capitol Hill police it would have been a massacre," Sen. Rand Paul told Fox News, describing the scene as "sort of a killing field."

Scalise was shot in the hip, sources told Fox News.

"Behind third base, I see a rifle...I hear Steve Scalise over near 2nd base scream," Brooks said. "...While all of this is going on, Steve Scalise our whip was lying on the ground near the second base position crawling into right field, leaving a trail of blood."

Brooks said the gunman was using the dugout as cover and estimated the assailant got off 50-100 shots during the attack on the 15-25 people gathered at the field.

If there was 50-100 shots, the gunman had several magazines, and reloaded. Unlikely he had more than a 30 round mag.

Senator Flake of Arizona says Scalise was on second base fielding ground balls when he was shot. Flake said that*Scalise*ran to the dugout along with another staffer that had been shot. Flake said the gunman had a large amount of ammunition.*"He looked like 40s, maybe 50, dark hair, white with a blue shirt on and I think jeans. My view of him was quick," Flake said.

I guess a 30 round mag is better than a 50, I mean, unless you are a mass murderer.

The suspect was taken into custody and is no longer a threat, according to Alexandria police. Emergency services transported five injured people from the scene, said Michael Brown, chief of the Alexandria Police Department.

Ohio Rep. Brad Wenstrup, a former combat surgeon in Iraq, was at the practice and described the scene to Fox News.

Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks said other members "deferred to [Wenstrup's] judgment on what to do" and described Wenstrup as using "some kind of scissors device" to cut through Scalise's pants to treat his wound.

“Paul credited Capitol Police, who were there to protect Scalise, with saving lives,” The Hill reported. One female and one male Capitol police officer were shot while returning fire.

According to the Hill, “Two Capitol Police officers on protective detail were also reportedly shot in the incident.”

Capitol Police were there as part of congressman's detail.

“The only reason why any of us walked out of this thing, by the grace of God, one of the folks here had a weapon to fire back and give us a moment to find cover.

This seems to say it was not capital police that shot suspect.

NBC News expert Cavanaugh just stated he received a text from a retired ATF agent who lived near the scene who spke with a woman who saw a man with a rifle prior to the shooting. She called 911 which may be why the Alexandria Police responded so. quickly.

ETA: He also mentioned that he would not be surprised to find out it was the Alexandria police that shot the suspect as they would have rifles available whereas the Capitol Police would only have handguns.
