Once again evil has raised its ugly head.

The two police officers there were true heroes, and even though wounded themselves they still did their job to bring down the shooter.

My heart breaks for my country. I pray everyone injured today by the shooter fully recovers and I am so thankful many innocent others there were spared but will be left traumatized by these evil acts of violence.

Thank you for this post. I'm sure you speak for a great many of us here and throughout the country.

Schumer on the Senate floor now talking and doing a moment of silence.

Shooter is James T Hodgkinson from Belleville, IL. Owns a home inspection business. 66 yo. In custody.

Belleville is a kind of conservative area (grew up in STL area). Interesting.

    Link to WaPo re suspect

Hodgkinson was charged in April 2006 with battery and aiding damage to a motor vehicle, according to online records in St. Clair County, Illinois. The charges were dismissed, records show.
Sounds like the guy may have had anger issues.

I think it must have be considered an assassination attempt, even if the shooter didn't have a specific person in mind.

OMG. This is about 8 blocks from my old apartment (I moved in January). I used to walk my dogs past Simpson field all the time. That part of Alexandria is usually pretty quiet, given its proximity to DC.

I really hope everyone recovers fully.

A man walking his dog at a park near the field told Fox News he heard police yelling at the gunman to put the gun down followed by someone in or around the dugout screaming back "Just shoot him."

CBS news reporting the second person injured was a lobbyist for Tyson's foods. Used to work as a Congressional staffer (in DC parlance, they're referred to as a "Revolver" - someone who goes from public service to private work as a lobbyist). He was helping out as an assistant coach.

ETA: Scalise now out of surgery. Apparently doing ok.

That FB page is filled up with a lot of ugly comments. Not sure who this guy is, but can guarantee, if he is a Bernie supporter, that Bernie and his supporters don't approve. I'm a Bernie supporter and I certainly don't.
