The teen’s friends said they were confronted by a motorist while walking back from breakfast. She was reportedly left behind as the others ran back to the All Dulles Area Muslim Society around 4 a.m."
I don't understand why the group of teens left their friend though? Did they not realize she wasn't following them? When did they notice?

This story does not make sense to me. Why on earth would her friends leave her there?
By any chance could Nabra have known the suspect and the friends thought naively that she would be ok and that they were just arguing?
Or did the friends use a cell phone to call 911 on the run back to Dulles Area Muslim Society?

Fairfax County Police now say that road rage was behind the attack: "This tragic case appears to be the result of a road rage incident involving the suspect, who was driving and who is now charged with murder, and a group of teenagers who was walking and riding bikes in and along a roadway. Our investigation at this point in no way indicates the victim was targeted because of her race or religion."

Then the car hopped the curb, they perceived hostile intent and they began to run. The group of more than a dozen kids did not immediately realize Hassanen was missing. Once they did, they told security officials at the mosque, who contacted police.

SBM: Wow, what an amazing man to have the wherewithal to think that at such a tragic time in his own life.
IMO way too soon to draw the conclusion that this was merely road rage. Sorry for you, beautiful girl.

how was this suspect connected so quickly? I thought I had read everything but I must have missed it. going back to re-read now.
ETA: Sounds like he went back to the scene the next morning and was pulled over then and admitted it. Sorry if I missed this. What class this family and her community have right now.

Just jumping off you jacct. LE said yesterday during their presser that it had nothing to do with her race/religion etc and was not a hate crime. I find it very disturbing that any of the media reported it as possibly being as such. I was watching it live from the news and as soon as the police said that the news cut away and went back to the regular news... not kidding. MSM is a joke sometimes. imo

He was repeatedly driving slowly past a search site, and so police pulled him over. They removed "evidence" from his car. Looking for a link now, but I have read that in multiple reliable sources. This is just down the street from me and she went to school where my kids went, so I'm following closely. Her family lived less than a mile from me. So sad. The school she attended, South Lakes, is a fabulous school-very diverse, challenging, lots of school spirit.
Reston is also very diverse, but not much racial or religious animosity. Very cosmopolitan, for lack of a better term. The community is quite shaken by this.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has gotten involved in the case. "On June 19, ICE lodged a detainer on Darwin Martinez Torres, a citizen and national of El Salvador, with the Adult Detention Center in Fairfax, Virginia. ICE lodges detainers on aliens who have been arrested on local criminal charges when the agency has probable cause to believe an alien is removable from the United States. Mr. Martinez Torres has no prior encounters with ICE."

A 22-year-old man accused of killing a 17-year-old Muslim girl in Virginia on Sunday morning is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) tells The Daily Caller...Torres spoke in court from jail through a Spanish translator, the newspaper reported.
The Washington Post reported from Torres arraignment earlier on Monday that he works in construction. He has a four-year-old son and a girlfriend, Torres family members told The Post. The Fairfax County Sheriffs Office confirmed to TheDC that Torres is a resident of El Salvador.

The Virginia teens were up late observing Ramadan, so they did what young people often do in the wee hours of the weekend: They went out for a bite to eat at McDonalds.
But as they walked and biked back to the All Dulles Area Muslim Society mosque in Sterling, along a major thoroughfare, a red car approached from behind about 3:40 a.m. Sunday and chaos erupted.
The driver, Darwin Martinez Torres, a 22-year-old construction worker from Sterling, got into an argument with a teen on a bike and then drove his car over a curb, scattering the group of as many as 15 teens, police said.
He caught up with them a short time later in a parking lot and chased them with a baseball bat, striking 17-year-old Nabra Hassanen and then abducting her in his car, police said.
Martinez Torres assaulted Nabra a second time, in Loudoun County, before dumping her body in a pond next to his apartment complex, where it was discovered about 3 p.m. on Sunday, police said.

So, he got in an argument with one of the teens on a bike, but chased down a girl who was apparently on foot, and who was hampered by her clothing. Sounds like Nabra was a convenient scapegoat.
But, Torres not only assaulted Nabra once, he abducted her, assaulted her again and then dumped her body in a pond. I wonder if he sexually assaulted her and may be why he placed her body in water. I'm so glad he was caught quickly and that there will be a thorough investigation.
