Michigan Airport Stabbing: Officer Attacked in Possible Terror Incident

An officer for Bishop International Airport was stabbed Wednesday in a possible terror-related incident in Flint, Michigan, sources told NBC News.

The attacker allegedly shouted "Allahu akbar" before stabbing Lieutenant Jeff Neville, who was bleeding from the neck, sources and witnesses at Bishop International Airport said.

Neville is a member of the airport's Department of Public Safety and a retired Genesee County Sheriff’s Department lieutenant.

Law enforcement officials said the suspect is from Quebec and has a Canadian passport.

I've been out since I posted about the stabbing at Bishop Airport. At the time, it was a local story with few facts beyond the initial report on WDIV. Over the past two hours, it's become apparent that this was not an isolated incident and may have wider implications. Thanks for updates.

Feds Investigating Attack on Officer at Flint Airport as Act of Terror; Attacker Yelled ‘ALLAH AKBAR’

The Canadian born suspect was shouting “Allahu Akbar” during the attack, witnesses said. The unnamed male suspect was taken into custody alive.

As part of the police investigation they will likely go to his Mom and Dads house and haul down to the police station his parents, brothers, sisters, friends etc and haul them all in for questioning.

Even if none of them have any extreme ideals they will likely be interrogated and hauled down to the police station.

To help stop these attacks, I think the media needs to advertise and publicize that and make sure it is known to future terrorists that they will be placing undue hardships to their own family and friends when they do this sort of thing.

If we can make that very public and make sure they know this then maybe just maybe it will give the next potential radical second thoughts before they do this crazy insane thing.

This has been the only thing I have been able to come up with to help slow the tide of this insanity.

Well pretty much IMO if you're screaming Allahu anything you're a terrorist. They also say he was yelling about killing people in Syria, etc. I am just SO done with FGM, the radical imam, the Hezbollah scouts and probably a half dozen sleeper cells and various lone wolf radicals we probably have living here. I am about OUT of understanding and compassion for these people.

The officer is extremely lucky, the knife was a 12-inch serrated knife.

U.S. and Canadian authorities have launched a joint terrorism investigation into the stabbing.

Ftouhi, whom the FBI described as being about 50 years old, entered New York state from Quebec on June 16 before making his way to Michigan.

Moments before the FBI publicly named Ftouhi as the suspect, Montreal police swarmed a site in that city's east end.

Earlier in the day, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Ralph Goodale said Canada condemns the "heinous and cowardly attack" and that the RCMP are co-operating with the FBI, which is leading the investigation

Cherie Carpenter, who was awaiting a flight to Texas to see her new grandchild, told Flint TV station WJRT she saw the attacker being led away in handcuffs. She described the man in custody as appearing "blank, just totally blank.

ITA. Well Dearborn will probably have more actions such as this (if it actually involved a terrorist act) to come out of the Michigan area, unfortunately. Glad the officer will be ok!

You are so correct in your posting. So much is being said that this terrorist isn't a refugee and that he is from Canada. I say, "So what?". USA has it's own radical Islamist terrorists, we don't have to have imported terrorists. It is way past the time to just expect terrorists from other countries to attack US citizens. There are many right here ready to carry out their mission for their cause.

Ftouhi is a Canadian who lived in Quebec. He was described as middle-aged, but there were conflicting reports on his age; an FBI spokesman said he was 50-years-old, but a news release said he was 49 according to the Canadian Press.

According to TVA, an apartment building in Montreal was raided late Wednesday afternoon in relation to the investigation.

Neighbours in the area identified a picture of Amor Fhtouhi to Global News saying he, along with his wife and two kids, lived in the building.

A Facebook profile of Ftouhi said he was originally from Tunisia and worked at Industrielle Alliance, a Canadian insurance company.

According to FBI, Ftouhi entered the U.S. just five days before the attack.

Bishop International Airport is around 100 kilometres from the Detroit-Windsor border crossing.

He arrived at the airport at 8:52 a.m. Wednesday with two bags, according to the FBI complaint filed with the Michigan District Court.

...

“He further exclaimed something similar to, ‘you have killed people in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and we are all going to die,’” FBI agent Thomas Sondgeroth wrote in the complaint.

He also asked the victim why he didn’t kill him, according to Sondgeroth.

...

Officers described the knife used in the attack as an Amazon Jungle Survival Knife, with a green handle and a serrated blade.

Ftouhi entered the United States legally in Lake Champlain, N.Y., on June 16
and made his way to Flint on Wednesday morning, he said.

...

Authorities said they have no indication at this time that Ftouhi was involved in a "wider plot," but the investigation is in its early stages.

...

Canadian TV footage showed police escorting at least one person away from a four-storey Montreal apartment building where the suspect is believed to have lived. There was a significant police presence outside the building.
