06.22.2017 Minneapolis LGBT Police Officers Un-Invited from Gay Pride Parade

The sheer hypocrisy, intolerance, divisiveness, and pure hatefulness of this move is simply *staggering*, IMO.

Just think about what kind of message that sends about the organizers of the Pride parade, and how "tolerant" and "inclusive" they are demonstrating themselves to be.

They are in essence saying, "if you are LGBT, and/ or a law enforcement officer, YOU ARE THE ENEMY OF LGBT PEOPLE AND THEIR SUPPORTERS. We are ashamed of you and don't want you. GO AWAY and STAY AWAY."

If that isn't hateful, divisive, hypocritical rhetoric, I don't know what is. This is repulsive.

The Minneapolis police chief, Janae Harteau, is openly gay, by the way.

Mpls. Police Chief 'beyond disappointed' at Pride snub

MINNEAPOLIS - "I am beyond disappointed."

Those heartfelt words were shared Thursday by Minneapolis Police Chief Janee' Harteau, in a letter she wrote to Twin Cities Pride Executive Director Dot Belstler in the wake of the announcement that uniformed police officers were not welcome to march in this weekend's PRIDE parade.

In a Facebook post Tuesday Twin Cities Pride organizers said the stance was in response to the recent Jeronimo Yanez not guilty verdict in the death of Philando Castile, and to "respect the pain the community is feeling right now." The decision came a day after the officer's dash cam video was released publicly for the first time, which shows how quickly the situation devolved from a conversation to a killing.

What makes this decision to un-invite police officers, some of whom are proudly LGBT, is that Chief Janae Harteau was the Grand Marshall a couple years ago, AND the Philando Castile shooting had nothing at all to do with LBGT people or issues. No one involved in the shooting was LGBT, the people in the car, or the officers.

So IMO, this is just an overt expression of hatefulness, anti-police rhetoric, and divisiveness. One person quoted in an above article that LGBT and minorities are not "comfortable" with WHITE officers in uniform. Excuse me?? Not all police officers are "white", and not all LGBT's are "minorities".

So, they are "uncomfortable" with Chief Janae Harteau? Openly lesbian, and white, who has spent her entire career fighting for justice, fairness, and inclusiveness?

This is why so many people cannot respect these vocal far left, "fringe" activists, and cannot even HEAR their issues, because of their hate and divisiveness, and utter contempt for those "not like them" and who have ideas different from theirs.

WHO is going to stand up for LGBT people if and when they are victims of bias crimes?? They are ALIENATING their biggest allies. I cannot begin to wrap my head around this. So much for achieving responsible and respected roles in society-- they are eating their young, and sending the message that becoming a LEO is not something LGBT people should aspire to.

The whole thing is beyond shameful. It really has drastically lowered my opinion of, and respect for LGBT organizers-- and clearly I'm not the only one. It's a purely political "anti-police" stunt.

But then again, openly "hating" police is fashionable, and almost mandatory for some groups, these days.

Way to go, Pride Parade organizers! You REALLY screwed up this time! But hey, it's "all" about a case that had nothing at all to do with LGBTs or issues, so we're not supposed to notice that? Idiots.

I have wonderful friends right here on this forum that are proud LGBT members. This IMO is totally repulsive. And it sure the Hell isn't acceptable.

I know, Tulessa. My family and I have a lot of gay friends and co-workers (there are lots of gay anesthetists). We have season tickets to the Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus, as well, since some of our friends sing with them. (A superb group, by the way-- wonderful musicality.)

This is really, really, really unacceptable. Talk about wiping out a lot of advances within the LGBT community, and damaging cooperation and understanding-- this takes the cake. Staggering hypocrisy.

Faced with blistering criticism over their astounding hypocrisy, PRIDE organizers have decided to “re-invite” police officers to participate in the parade. They have “generously” said LEOs will be “allowed” to touch the unity flag, or march alongside it. Oh my.

However, the lead police car must still remain “in the closet”, and will be an “unmarked car”, lol! The hypocrisy of this group marching and demonstrating for inclusivity, while openly discriminating and excluding police officers, is simply staggering.

Shout out to weak and impotent Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges, who has managed not to say ONE word about this controversy, as her Police Chief (a former parade grand Marshall), and entire police department, is excluded, shamed, discriminated against, and defamed by the Pride organizers.Way to go, Mayor Hodges! Hopefully the electorate has a long memory!

I also love how the PRIDE organizers have delivered their “non-apology apology”, while deflecting the entire episode, and pretending this was somehow about transgender people being upset with the Philando Castile verdict. The entire PC situation had nothing at all to do with transgender people, or transgender issues.
