Searchers Look for Missing Woman Along Bear River

Yuba County sheriff's investigators spent a second day searching along the Bear River for any sign of a missing 20-year-old woman.

Searchers are looking for Chairo Yosigey Garibay. Her family's green 1995 Toyota Camry was discovered Sunday morning submerged in the river.

Investigators learned Garibay was to have met her parents for church Sunday morning but never arrived. When the Garibays returned home, they found their daughter and the Toyota gone but her purse and identification in the home.

This young lady has been missing since Sunday morning when she failed to meet her parents at church. The family car was found in the river, her purse was left at the family home.

The police say:


"The circumstances are highly suspicious," he said. "We're not ruling out the possibility of foul play. We're not discounting any theory at this point." :(
 
Is this Chairo Garibay? Isn't there a thread for her already? Should they be combined?
 
Yuba County searchers have wrapped up a third day of looking through thick brush and shallow sections of the Bear River for a missing 20-year-old woman without finding any sign of her.

Search and rescue specialists from three counties as well as family and friends are hoping to find Chairo Garibay Ferreyra. Her family's green 1995 Toyota Camry was discovered Sunday morning partially submerged in the river.

OLIVEHURST, Calif. -- The search continued Wednesday for a missing Yuba County woman.

Chairo Garibay, 20, disappeared Sunday. Her car was later found submerged in the Bear River.

Authorities sifted through an area of freshly dug-up dirt behind Garibay's Oliverhurst home Wednesday morning, but turned up nothing.

"The way the ground settled, it kind of looked a little unusual ... like there could be something directly underneath. It turned out to be nothing, " Yuba County Sheriff's Department Capt. Ron Johnson said.

Investigators also said that a window in the rear of Garibay's was found open after she disappeared. Family members said the area around the window was newly damaged.

Searchers in Yuba County have expanded the area they're looking in for a 20-year-old woman missing since Sunday.

Today searchers are concentrating on Star Bend in Linda off Feather River Boulevard in their efforts to find Chairo Garibay Ferreyra.

Yesterday searchers went over open fields and a construction site near Garibay Ferreyra's home looking for any clue to her whereabouts.

Garibay was “held up” several months ago in the Natomas area of Sacramento and had her identification stolen, according to Chavez.

Yuba County Undersheriff Steve Durfor said he was unaware of the details of that incident. Detectives he spoke with also were not aware of it, he said.

Wonder if there is anything not being told to us yet, ie; ex b/f, or stalker, who knows. Seems weird to be pinpointed like that. Unless it was who ever held her up in the past.
 
Yuba County sheriff's Deputies Willie Kardateski and Mark Heath sat at the edge of a trailer with several maps and their global positioning system units. Under the waning Thursday sky, they gauged the area on the maps they had passed through earlier on their all-terrain vehicle.

Around them roamed a collection of people, dogs and horses that gathered to find Chairo Yosigey Garibay, 20, an Olivehurst woman missing for five days.

Thursday's search concentrated along the Feather River from the Star Bend boat ramp to the confluence of the Father and Bear rivers. It yielded no results. They will continue searching today.

A sixth day of searching for a missing Olivehurst woman ended Friday with no sign of her whereabouts, but the Yuba County Sheriff's Department intends to search throughout the weekend.

“There's nothing new to report,” said Undersheriff Steve Durfor.

Friday's search for Chairo Yosigey Garibay extended out from the Star Bend Boat Landing in the county's southeast corner - about five to six miles from where her car was found submerged in the Bear River.

Deputies been investigating her disappearance as a crime but has few leads.

After going through Chairo Garibay Ferreyra's wardrobe, her family and Yuba County Sheriff Department detectives believe she was wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt that zips in the front, blue jeans and brown leather cowboy boots with pointed toes and wood heels a week ago Sunday when she was reported missing. Garibay Ferreyra is also known to usually wear large hoop earrings.

Authorities have released an illustration of a ring the 20-year-old woman may have been wearing when she disappeared.

The ring is made of 14-carat gold and cubic zirconium, and Garibay would have been wearing it on hear left ring finger. Garibay was also wearing a long-sleeved zippered shirt, blue jeans and brown cowboy boots when she disappeared.

The search for a missing Olivehurst woman who disappeared under suspicious circumstances continued Wednesday with fewer people involved.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department and state Department of Justice investigators also continued their criminal investigation into the Dec. 11 disappearance of Chairo Yosigey Garibay.

Deputies have few leads to go on, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Garibay, 20, stands 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 130 pounds. She has brown hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. Her nickname is “Chi.”

On Monday, the Sheriff's Department said that when Garibay disappeared she may have been wearing new blue jeans, a black long-sleeved shirt that zips up the front, and brown calf-length cowboy boots with pointed toes and wooden heels.

Garibay also may have been wearing a 14-carat gold zirconium ring on her left ring finger. She has no tattoos or identifying scars, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department has suspended its search for an Olivehurst woman who disappeared earlier this month, Undersheriff Steve Durfor said Tuesday.

The department will renew its search for Chairo Yosigey Garibay, 20, when there are any new, viable leads on her whereabouts, he said.

An exhaustive search for Garibay was conducted in areas around her home in Olivehurst. Searchers also looked in the area where her vehicle was discovered submerged in the Bear River a half-mile east of Highway 70. They've also looked along the Feather River and the fields in the nearby area, Durfor said.

Meanwhile, the criminal investigation into Garibay's disappearance continues with the assistance of investigators from the Department of Justice, Durfor said.

I was wondering... her boyfriend hasn't said much. Granted, I think he's 20, but he doesn't say he misses her or anything like that. He's always quoted as saying something like "I don't know what to say".

Also, it's been reported that she is wearing a cubic zirconium on her left ring finger. She's not married or engaged that it's been reported. It could be a promise ring, I guess. That would make it kind of serious I suppose?
Maybe not. But you would think the guy would say more.

I don't know, maybe I'm speculating too much.
It's just odd that the car was found half submerged in water and she's nowhere to be found, yet her id and important things are at home.

I posted a thread to discuss this case in the discussion forum for missing persons. There's something about this ring and her wearing it on her ring finger that just puzzles me.... was she engaged or pretending to be?

It's possible that a perp may think that it was a real diamond so possible motive?? A home invasion gone wrong?? Someone watching the house (common this time of year) and sees the family leave for church, breaks in thru a back window and finds that the home is occupied after all?? Chairo's car is left behind but another family members car is taken. Not an uncommon ring but one that should not be just lying around on the ground somewhere and pawn shops are now aware of the ring and its relation to Chairo.

A lot of ground was covered in searching for her and nada......with the vehicle in the river sounds like the perp had a second car following for a ride when the stolen car was abandoned. She could be anywhere.....and the area is just close enough to the area Christie Wilson is missing from its uncanny. So the areas searched for Chairo that came up empty come up empty for Christie too.

Now there is a man wanted in Placerville area for killing his daughter and shooting his wife....the manhunt is on and if nothing else they will have the opportunity to find either of these girls and if not its another area to mark off as searched. Grasping for that silver lining in these cases.....
