    Donald Trump is a liar

    An introduction, from fusion.kinja.com:

What All of Donald Trump’s Lies Look Like in Print

Whatever the clinical cause, we know that Donald Trump lies consistently and compulsively. But when you put all of those lies together in print, the result is both visually and cerebrally staggering.

New York Times graphics director Stuart Thompson and op–ed columnist David Leonhardt decided to publish Trump’s most undisputable public lies—not even his half–truths or misleading statements—since taking the oath of office. They occupied, in small print, an entire full–length page of The New York Times.

According to the newspaper’s calculations, and again, this is using “demonstrably false statements,” Trump told a lie every day of his first 40 days in office. The streak finally ended on March 1, but the pattern continues to this day. Since then, Trump has publicly said something untrue 65% of the days. And on many of the non–lie days, the Times notes, Trump was busy golfing or vacationing.

“There is simply no precedent for an American president to spend so much time telling untruths,” the newspaper states. “Every president has shaded the truth or told occasional whoppers. No other president — of either party — has behaved as Trump is behaving. He is trying to create an atmosphere in which reality is irrelevant.”

    And the NYT piece:

    Trump's lies

Many Americans have become accustomed to President Trump’s lies. But as regular as they have become, the country should not allow itself to become numb to them. So we have catalogued nearly every outright lie he has told publicly since taking the oath of office.

Just this week during his rally in Iowa Trump bragged about the solar wall, "his idea." CNN did report on this--solar wall was not of course his idea. When is it all going to catch up with him is the question.

When his party realizes his coattails are short. They obviously don't care about the country -- only their next campaigns.

Look around. As long as haters breed and liars lie, there's always the danger of a demagogue. And we're dealing with one now.

Why We Lie: The Science Behind Our Deceptive Ways
Honesty may be the best policy, but scheming and dishonesty are part of what makes us human.
This story appears in the June 2017 issue of National Geographic magazine.

    […]
There appears to be no agreement among psychiatrists about the relationship between mental health and lying, even though people with certain psychiatric disorders seem to exhibit specific lying behaviors. Sociopathic individuals—those diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder—tend to tell manipulative lies, while narcissists may tell falsehoods to boost their image.
But is there anything unique about the brains of individuals who lie more than others? In 2005 psychologist Yaling Yang and her colleagues compared the brain scans of three groups: 12 adults with a history of repeated lying, 16 who met the criteria for antisocial personality disorder but were not frequent liars, and 21 who were neither antisocial nor had a lying habit. The researchers found that the liars had at least 20 percent more neural fibers by volume in their prefrontal cortices, suggesting that habitual liars have greater connectivity within their brains. It’s possible this predisposes them to lying because they can think up lies more readily than others, or it might be the result of repeated lying.
    […]
An experiment by Tali Sharot, a neuroscientist at University College London, and colleagues showed how the brain becomes inured to the stress or emotional discomfort that happens when we lie, making it easier to tell the next fib. In the fMRI scans of the participants, the team focused on the amygdala, a region that is involved in processing emotions. The researchers found that the amygdala’s response to lies got progressively weaker with each lie, even as the lies got bigger. “Perhaps engaging in small acts of deception can lead to bigger acts of deception,” she says.

During the campaign Trump said he wouldn't cut medicaid, so I'm wondering if the Republican healthcare bill passes and his base loses coverage will they finally turn against him?

No, because it won't be his fault.

He's the most helpless president ever.

Trump's lies must be, when revealed in the day's sober light, anathema to his supporters, so few are stopping by. It's like cloves of garlic and the cross to vampires. They'll lose their own reflections if they look.

IDK - it's been several months now of being confronted with the truth almost daily but their undying support never seems to waver. Every day, I wonder to myself, how much longer can this continue?

    Bizarre phenomenon.
