Troopers suspend search for missing hiker, but volunteers keep looking

Authorities have suspended the search for a Juneau woman missing since about 1 p.m. Saturday, according to Alaska State Troopers.

But volunteers, including SEADOGS, are still actively looking for Teri Heuscher, 53, of Juneau, who was last seen on the trail beneath Thunder Mountain, known as “Under Thunder.”
“Essentially, we covered the main trails and the area around the trail,” said Megan Peters, a spokeswoman for Troopers. “People were on bikes and ATVs, people canvased the neighborhood, helicopters searched up in the Alpine area. All the points of the trail were covered.”
“We’ve looked in what we consider the high-probability areas we’ve been able to identify,” he said Monday morning. “If we come up with other clues, like her jacket or a sighting of her out there on the trail, we would look there. Right now we just don’t have a lot of clues.”

The search base has been moved from the trailhead to the Alaska State Trooper post, Bowler added.

In another article, it says she was wearing black dress pants, not just black pants. That makes it seem unlikely that she was going for a hike.

Dogs got her scent near the Coho Apartments, which is where her daughter lives. I'm thinking there's more to this story.

I don't think this is likely to be Teri, but an unidentified body was found in a Juneau hot tub: http://www.ktoo.org/2017/08/21/body-...uneau-hot-tub/

Duck hunter finds human remains near Thunder Mountain

A Juneau duck hunter found human remains near the base of Thunder Mountain on Monday afternoon, Juneau police say.

In an email Tuesday afternoon, Lt. David Campbell of the Juneau Police Department said the “condition of the remains showed considerable deterioration and prevented identification, including a determination of gender. It was also not possible to determine how long the remains had been in the woods.”
When Campbell asked a detective for his best estimate on how long the remains had been in the area, the detective said six months or more. The police department said the remains were gathered from the campsite and will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for identification and to determine how the person died.

Campbell said a tent and cook pot were found at the site, which was located in a gully, and the only clothing discovered was a non-gender-specific jacket.
Several Juneau residents and visitors have gone missing within the past six months here. The most notable in this case is 53-year-old Teri Heuscher, who disappeared in June. She was last seen on the “Under Thunder” trail used by the duck hunter who found the remains. Campbell would not disclose whether the jacket matched the description of one worn by Heuscher.

Authorities identify remains as woman missing since June

Human remains found Monday near the base of Thunder Mountain are those of a missing Juneau woman.

According to a Juneau Police Department news release, the Alaska State Medical Examiner’s Office identified Teri Heuscher, 53, using dental records. She had been missing since June 24.

A cause of death has not been determined. The examiner’s preliminary results don’t suggest foul play.

Police in Alaska's capital city say remains recently discovered in the woods belonged to a woman who was reported missing earlier this year.

Juneau police said Friday that the state medical examiner's office identified the remains as belonging to 53-year-old Teri Heuscher of Juneau.

In a release, police said that a possible cause of death is pending. But based on a preliminary analysis, they said foul play is not suspected.
