LA - Gabrielle McCoy, 9, Tangipahoa River, 25 June 2017

Search continues for missing 9-year-old girl

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The search continues for a 9-year-old Roseland girl who went missing while swimming in the Tangipahoa River Sunday.
Crews have been searching for Gabrielle McCoy since she went missing while swimming with a friend.
Officials say the current from the rain-swollen river took them both in.
A good Samaritan was able to save the friend from the river but was unable to reach Gabrielle before she disappeared into the water.

It would have to be a miracle if she was somehow washed away to somewhere unfamiliar, but she still managed to climb out and is just lost now.

Coast Guard joins search for missing child on area river

INDEPENDENCE – The U.S. Coast Guard has joined in on the search for a nine-year-old girl along the Tangipahoa River Monday, the second day of searching after the child went missing while playing on the waterway this weekend.
"It's probably a recovery at this point," Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller told WWL TV, a news partner of WBRZ and WBRZ.com. "It's a terrible situation. The family is in shock. When people realize how fast the water is moving, please stay out of it.”
