The Dakota County Sheriff's Office and a citizen group are teaming up to continue the search for a 61-year-old man who went missing near Farmington Sunday.

The sheriff's office tweeted that it is meeting with a citizen search group at the Dakota County Fairgrounds and will use ATVs and drones in its search for Bruce Peterson, who was last seen Sunday just before 10 p.m. when he went for a walk to finish a cigar.

We are meeting with a citizen search group at the Fairgrounds to search for Bruce Peterson. ATV's and drones will be in area.

A 61-year-old man was reported missing Sunday night after he left his belongings inside a camper at the county fairgrounds and never returned, authorities said Tuesday.

Bruce Peterson, who was visiting the area with his wife from out of state, left the Dakota County Fairgrounds in Farmington at 10 p.m. to have a cigar, authorities said. Peterson left his wallet and other belongings behind.

Authorities said it is “suspicious,” but do not think there was any foul play.

On Tuesday afternoon, authorities met with a citizen’s group to search the fairgrounds.

The area is all farm land for the most part. There is a smaller town of Farmington with farms and not much else outside of Farmington. The Dakota County Fair grounds are quite a large search area alone. But, it is mostly open area. Of course there are wooded areas around as well. There are roads very near. Some dirt and two lane roads.
It looks like there are some 4H and ATV events there now. Hopefully, that will bring more help for the search.

His brother, Mitch Peterson, says the man and his wife were in town visiting family and were camping at the Dakota County Fairgrounds.

"Everything about this is completely out of character as we know Bruce," Peterson said. "In the absence of having nothing, it's inexplicable. It doesn't make any sense. It's as if he just vanished."

Peterson said his brother left the campsite without his phone or wallet, so they were not able to reach out to him.
The group were on the lookout for several items the missing man was known to have on him at the time he went missing, including any cigar butts and a cigar cutter. Family also told the search party he only had one hearing aid in at the time.

Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of 61-year-old Bruce Peterson of Montana.

Sheriff Tim Leslie said it’s too early to say whether foul play was involved, but he or the Hennepin County medical examiner’s office could have more information later Wednesday or Thursday.
A searcher retracing where others had been looking came upon Peterson about 9:30 a.m. in woods near a fence line just to the southwest of the grounds, Leslie said.

Any update at all on this case?

Not that I can find. Since they don't suspect foul play we may never get an update. He could have died of natural causes, accidental death or suicide. Usually LE will protect the family's privacy and not reveal cause of death if no one else is involved and the public doesn't need to know. JMO.

I had actually emailed a reporter and asked if there were any updates a couple weeks ago. I was told that they do not expect any updates. So I'm thinking Gardener is right in the money.
