A coast-to-coast truck driver was in jail Thursday under bonds totaling $1 million in a case involving homemade child pornography.

Deputies with the sheriff’s office warrant division brought Darrell Hinds, 36, back to Galveston County on Wednesday. The former Texas City resident faced a charge of promotion of child pornography, but Thursday afternoon officials added three new charges — aggravated sexual assault of a child, sexual performance by a child and indecency with a child by contact.

The case started about two weeks ago, when a woman living in a Texas City apartment found a videotape in her kitchen cupboard. After putting the tape in her VCR, the woman called police to report that someone apparently had left child pornography in her residence.

The tape showed a man engaged in various sex acts with a boy, 4, and a 9-month-old girl. Investigators said they captured a still image of the man’s face from the tape and showed it to the manager of the apartment complex. The manager identified the man in the picture as the previous occupant of the woman’s apartment. Police said they believed the tape was made in 2003.
