Abdulbasir Faizi, 47, was last seen leaving his workplace on Kitimat Road in Mississauga at approximately 7 p.m. He called his wife and told her he was going out with a co-worker.

He was driving his 2002 Nissan, which was found abandoned seven days later in the area of St. Clair Avenue and Mount Pleasant Road in Toronto. Its discovery did not help police find Faizi.
Peel’s 21 Division detectives say they have conducted an “extensive” investigation in the time since he vanished, but have been unable to find him
.

Two years ago, Toronto police said his disappearance could be linked to two other men who have gone missing in the Church Street/Wellesley Street East area of Toronto, commonly known as Toronto’s Gay Village.

Police said they had determined his last known location was at an establishment in that area.

Faizi is described as Middle Eastern, 5-foot-9, weighing approximately 175 pounds at the time of his disappearance and had black hair with a black goatee. He was last seen wearing a brown winter jacket, a black T-shirt, blue jeans and white shoes.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Const. Shawn Birnie of the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453-3311 ext. 2133. Information can also be left anonymously by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting www.peelcrimestoppers.ca or by sending a text message to CRIMES (274637) with the word “PEEL” and then your tip.

By Jenny Yuen, Toronto Sun June 06, 2013
The whereabouts of a third man who was also last seen in the Village — Abdulbasir Faizi, 44 — also remains unknown.

Navaratnam and Faizi both disappeared in late 2010 within two months of each other and Kayhan was reported missing to Toronto Police in October 2012.

Rennie said he believed Kayhan had a wife and kids in another country and thought, “Maybe he went back there. I would just see him on the street by himself, walking up and down.”

Both of the men he knew used to hang out at Woody’s during the day.

Another bartender, David Kraft, said he discovered through chats that Navaratnam he was “an easy going person.”

“We used to see him with a lot of the other regulars and he seemed to do everyday things,” he said. “It was shocking to know he disappeared.”

What we know about the suspect in the disappearances from Toronto's Gay Village

Bruce McArthur, 66, frequented the Church and Wellesley neighbourhood, former acquaintance says
McArthur lived in a high-rise apartment in Thorncliffe Park, a leafy neighbourhood about five kilometres — a 15- or 20-minute drive — northeast of Church and Wellesley. Forensic investigators were examining a 19th floor unit there late Thursday evening.

Skandaraj Navaratham, 40, known online as Skanda Nava, is one of three other men who vanished between 2010 and 2012. After he disappeared in September 2010, Abdulbasir Faizi,44, vanished from a location just blocks away three months later. Then, in October 2012, Majeed Kayhan, 58, was reported missing as well, last seen in the Gay Village.

Toronto Gay Village murders should be police wake-up call, expert says
January 24, 2018

Snipped...
...Project Prism, which was formed Aug. 14, is comprised of an officer from the homicide squad, an officer from the sex crimes unit and six members of 51 Division, three of whom were also members of Project Houston, an 18-month investigation that began in November 2012 focusing on the disappearances of three other men with ties to the Church and Wellesley area: Skandaraj “Skanda” Navaratnam, Abdulbasir “Basir” Faizi, and Majeed “Hamid” Kayhan.

Project Houston failed to determine what happened to the three men.

Speaking in general terms, Lee suggested more should be done to intervene in these kinds of cases.

“People don’t just wake up one day and start killing people. There’s usually a gradual process,” he said. “And serial killers are notoriously good at hiding pieces of themselves and their lives. They have secret lives from people around them.”

Lee noted serial killers also enjoy committing the crimes.

Suspected serial killer Bruce McArthur was barred from Gay Village
January 24, 2018

Toronto’s Gay Village was considered off-limits for suspected serial killer Bruce McArthur after he brutally attacked a man with a pipe in 2001.

The 66-year-old is charged with first-degree murder in the disappearances of Selim Esen and Andrew Kinsman off the streets of the village.

...Meanwhile, CBC News reports that Toronto Police are now confirming the accused killer is not being ruled out in any of the earlier disappearances of gay men in the area.

Court documents show police allege Mr. McArthur killed Mr. Faizi on or around Dec. 29, 2010, in Toronto.
Mr. Faizi’s car was found early in 2011 on Moore Ave, not far from the property where Mr. McArthur stored his landscaping tools, and where a number of the bodies have been located.

The night of his disappearance, Mr. Faizi had been in the Village, where he was a regular. In divorce records filed after his disappearance, his wife — and investigators — believed that Mr. Faizi had simply left the country.

Bruce McArthur case: Here’s what we know about the 8 victims
Posted January 29, 2019

Abdulbasir Faizi

Faizi, 42, was reported missing to Peel Regional Police by his family on Dec. 29, 2010. Officers suggested Faizi had simply left his family, so his wife divorced him, thinking he’d abandoned her and their two young daughters. He was last seen in Toronto’s Village neighbourhood. Police later found his car abandoned near the home of one of McArthur’s landscaping clients.

McArthur was charged with his murder on April 11, 2018.
