No mention of a vehicle, guessing he was on foot. There is a golf course nearby. Otherwise pretty much a housing development area.

Really, I'd like to know, too. He was in his pajamas.

And wherever he was, the elevator must have continued to function for a month or he would have been found sooner. How did the apartment residents and maintenance not notice a smell? This is so strange.

The tenants reported an odor. His body was so decomposed that detectives had to use hazmat suits.

ETA: Nevermind the above. Apparently the elevator was in a garage and it HAD stopped working and tenants had reported a stench:
Tenants have told Denver7 they told apartment managers about a stench in the hallway weeks ago, but Komisarchik’s body wasn’t discovered until Tuesday.

Denver police haven’t said where in the elevator his body was found.

Denver Fire Capt. Greg Pixley told Denver7 in an interview Wednesday that fire crews had been conducting an inspection on nearby property, managed by the same company, when the property maintenance supervisor received a call about a body being found.

"He said he had to cancel the inspection," Pixley said.

The fire crews asked if they could assist.

"As an emergency medical technician, all Denver Firefighters have the responsibility to provide emergency medical care, if they can. Unfortunately, in this circumstance, there was not that possibility."
Pixley said the garage elevator met the appropriate fire code standards for 2016 and had the appropriate permits for operation in 2017.
Tenants say the elevator wasn't working and that few people parked in the garage during summer months. If that's the case, it raises questions about why an elevator company wasn't called.

Missing Denver man found dead in elevator called for help twice, report says

A missing Denver man who died in an elevator shaft that was under construction had pushed the emergency button twice but received no response, according to a report.
The Post reported that in compliance with Denver city code, the elevator car should have had an around-the-clock emergency switch labeled “Alarm,” and an intercom system or phone labeled “Help” for those inside to contact security.
The parking garage the elevator was located in had been closed due to renovation, and the elevator was not in service.

A spokesman for Denver police said that “the elevator wasn’t inoperable,” adding “How he got in there and when he got in there is obviously what we’re trying to figure out.”

Unhappy Man died in elevator after twice pushing emergency button! No one responded. :(

An elderly man who died in a parking-garage elevator had pushed the emergency button twice during an 8-minute span July 6 but got no response despite Denver code requiring elevator operators to monitor emergency notifications around the clock.
Unable to escape the elevator car possibly because of dementia 82-year-old Isaak Komisarchik died between the morning of July 6 and Aug. 2, when elevator repair workers finally discovered the body after multiple residents of the apartment complex reported a terrible stench.

    ---
...two elevator calls from the same elevator car where Komisarchik was found were electronically logged at 9:09 a.m. and 9:17 a.m. on July 6, the day after he disappeared.

What a heartbreaking story. He knew to push the emergency button TWICE.........but there was no-one paying attention to help him.
