GUILTY TX - Bernard Wilson, 17, stabbed to death, Luboock, 21 April 2005

Doesn't say how decomposed the body was...could this be Joanna....oh...what was her name? Red-haired girl who has been missing for over a year from Lubbock?

Human Remains Found In Yellowhouse Canyon

Human remains are found just south of Buffalo Springs Lake.
The body was found on the property of the V-8 Ranch located at FM 835 in the Yellowhouse Canyon near the Slaton Highway.

Officials say two men were driving through the area just after 4 p.m. Thursday when one of them received a call on his cell phone. The other man got out of the car to give him some privacy. While walking through the area, the man came upon a human skull.

The Lubbock County Medical Examiner removed the remains and is now waiting for an anthropologist to examine the decomposed skull.

Officials secured the area where it was found. The search stopped for the day at sunset, when darkness made the search difficult.

"We really have not done any search of the area," says Lubbock County Sheriff David Gutierrez. "We want to (keep the area) secure and we`re going to be out here all night. First thing in the morning, as soon as daylight comes up, we`ll start combing the area to see if we find anything."

Two women from Lubbock are missing. Joanna Rogers disappeared on May 4, 2004. The other woman, Jennifer Wilkerson, has been missing since July, 2004.

Officials are not ruling out any possibilities.

"We are talking to local law enforcement to see if anyone else is missing," says Sheriff Gutierrez. "We have a lot of work to do and I can`t make comment on speculation."

Sheriff Gutierrez did speak to Joanna Rogers` mother to let her know about the remains. A short time later, he also personally contacted Wilkerson`s family.

The search and investigation will continue Friday morning. The sheriff says dental records will be used to try and identify the remains.

What a sad time for these 2 families ,waiting to see if it is their Loved one .:(

Prayers for both families as they wait. I pray some family somewhere gets a long-awaited answer.

there's an update on Joanna Rogers' site:

UPDATE - Friday, December 30th - Skeletal remains were found late yesterday in a rugged area just southeast of Lubbock. It appears that the remains are those of a deceased male and, thus, not of either Joanna or Jennifer Wilkerson. We have no further information regarding the discovery at this time. You can read local press accounts here.

Late Addendum: An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning, with a forensic anthropologist flown in from Dallas in attendance. The clothing found on the remains suggests it is a male. It is assumed that the autopsy will prove that one way or the other, and hopefully provide more information about who the person is, or at least some sort of description (height, age, etc.).

They have the skull so it should be pretty easy to compare dental records of the two girls. I wonder what males are missing. Of course it could be someone who isn't even from around that area. I hope they are able to ID the body. Someone is missing a loved one and even though it would be so hard to hear the news at least they will know where their loved one is.

Guess that means another person is dead besides these.

Remains are of a murdered male between the ages of 16-20. I can't get to the link to copy and paste over here. My account at the local paper online suddenly quit working after being just fine.

Investigators release 3-D picture of remains
BY BETH AARON
AVALANCHE-JOURNAL

Lubbock County Sheriff's investigators released a three-dimensional rendering Tuesday of the person whose remains were found near Yellow House Canyon almost a year ago.

On Dec. 29, 2005, two motorists pulled over to make a cell phone call and discovered a human skull near Buffalo Springs Lake on FM 835. Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene, where they found other skeletal remains about 10 to 15 yards away from the location of the skull.

No new information is known about the missing person or how he died, Capt. Don Carter said. Investigators with the Lubbock County Medical Examiner's Office have said he had been deceased between six and 18 months before the body was found and that the cause of death was violent.

A forensic artist at the Texas Rangers headquarters in Austin used the evidence investigators gathered to mold the likeness of a 12- to 19-year-old black or Hispanic male with short black hair.

The unidentified teen is also described as between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall and is estimated to have weighed 160 to 180 pounds. Anyone with information about the identity of the teen should call the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office at 775-1601 or Crime Line at 741-1000. Callers may remain anonymous.

I think that this person may have been identified. The old links are dead as usual but here is some info that seems to relate to the same story.

Buffalo Springs Lake remains teenage male
Published: Monday, January 09, 2006

The human remains discovered near Buffalo Springs Lake two weeks ago are those of an unidentified teenage male, said chief investigator Robert Byers of the Lubbock County Medical Examiner's Office.

Byers said examiners had found that the deceased was probably between 12 and 19 years of age, had dark, curly hair and was between 5 foot 6 and 5 foot 9 inches tall.

The remains were found Dec. 29, when two motorists pulled over on the side of FM 835 to make a cell phone call. While one motorist made the call, the other walked away from the car and came upon a human skull. The Lubbock County Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene, where they found other remains underneath leaves, broken tree limbs and grass, about 10 to 15 yards away from the location of the skull.

-traumatic injury
-more than 95 % of the remains found
-badly decomposed but some traces of tissue left
-clothing was found with body
-Info sent to the National Missing Person's Database

Investigators are hoping that a 3D image can help them identify a body found in Yellowhouse Canyon last December. The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office released the image Tuesday, of what they beleive the boy looked like at the time of his death. They believe the boy was around 15 years old. He was either black or hispanic, and about 5-feet-6 to 5-feet-9 inches tall. We also know that an analysis of his DNA never came back with a match, meaning he was never filed as a "missing person."

The boy's decomposed body was found half-dressed in Yellowhouse Canyon last year, near Buffalo Springs. The medical examiner determined that he died of traumatic violence during the fall of 2004.

From March 2009:

Six people involved in one murder covered it up for years before they were caught. Thursday, the sixth and final suspect in the Bernard Wilson murder case pleaded guilty...

Wilson's murder started with a robbery. On April 21st, 2005 Wilson and a group of friends decided to rob Whataburger at 50th and Utica, where Wilson worked, when an employee recognized at least one of them, some of the older would-be robbers got scared, and Wilson paid the price. "He was the newest friend to this group of people. They felt like he was the youngest, the weakest link. He was the one, if anybody had to talk to law enforcement, he would be the one to give them up," said Texas Ranger Tony Arnold...

All six suspects pleaded guilty to murder. All six are now behind bars. Keyairra Brown is serving 29 years, and Leslie Evans 25. Investigators believe they were directly responsible for killing Wilson. Carnell Littlejohn and Joe Ragan were sentenced to 10 years... Wanda Wilson and Thamar Snyder will serve 5 years.
