The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help to locate a missing man from Ojai who was last seen in Carpinteria.

The family of Eric "Sunny" Buttler, 57, reported him missing on June 28.

He was last known to be traveling from Ojai to Lompoc and made an unexpected stop in Carpinteria on June 24. On July 4, his vehicle was found in an unincorporated area of Santa Maria.

Buttler is described as 5'9" tall and 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He reportedly has ties to Ventura and Santa Barbara counties and is well known in the community for his volunteer work.

In a Facebook post, Buttler’s family said that he left Ojai June 24 around 5 p.m.; later that evening he spoke to a close friend on the phone, but that was the last contact any family or friends have had with him.

Buttler’s phone was found at a Chevron station in Carpinteria a few days later.

The family is asking that the*Facebook post*be shared*in California, New York and*Las Vegas.

This actually came across my Facebook page today. I hope he is found.

Reading fb comments, it looks like there have been some maybe sightings? I hope they are following up on them.

His brother seems to be the 'spokesperson' for the family. He posted that they have video surveillance that has been recovered, foresenics has been done on his truck, monitoring bank accounts. Lead detective asked him not to share specifics.

Hoping for a positive outcome but that doesn't really sound very good....

How very sad....and sounds oh so suspicious. Phone found in one place, truck in another, and he in yet another place. He looked like a very happy man. I feel so bad for his family.

Aww. I really hoped that he would be able to go home to his family.
