Does anyone know what the tattoo is supposed to be?

IMO, looks like a crude tattoo of a skull with its skin being pulled off. The way the object on top is situated it doesn't appear that it's wrapping around the head, instead it's peeling off.

a gear on the skull? Gear Head? A tool or a throwing star? I know next to nothing about martial arts.

Odd image, skin peeling off a skull, when we're seeing a picture of skin that peeled for this person's shoulder.

Ick.

Oh, man you all are right I can see the skull now.

I kept looking at it and thinking it was a distorted giraffe head or a cow head... :blushing:

I see a skull with possibly Intuit art on it? Exaggerated eye and open mouth at the bottom.

Showed my husband he sort of sees a vertebra and the 3 black dots are the shadows from the 3 parts that are hanging down.

Found in abandoned truck on property, possibly white and homeless, trying to make home in the vehicle. May have been there since February.

If he died in the vehicle, the vehicle essentially becomes a sealed coffin and mummification is entirely possible.

Fighting with my phone on posts: since my link didn't work, here is the article.
LITTLE ROCK — While walking the grounds of his southeast Little Rock property, Moon Distributors Inc. President Stan Hastings found a decomposing body in one of his company’s old trucks, police said.
Little Rock officers were called Friday to a vacant lot at 2800 Vance St. about 12:45 p.m. and found the body of a man in the cab of a rustedout industrial truck, according to department spokesman Lt. Terry Hastings, who’s no relation to Stan Hastings.
Police didn’t find anyidentification for the man among the various wrappers and trash items in the truck. Hastings said the man - possibly white and possibly homeless - may have made a home out of the abandoned vehicle.
The body may had been there since February, Terry Hastings said.
“With the body in the decomposed state it’s in, we’ll have to wait on an autopsy to know what happened,” Hastings said. “Right now [the cause of death] is still under investigation.”

Edited to add:

I've found drawings of Santa Muerte wearing a crown made out of bones with a coccyx and some vertebrae. Maybe this is a take

BBM I thought "vertebra" as well, but guessed that a throwing star was a more likely tattoo subject?

IDK, googling skull tattoo does produce plenty of del Muerte images.

:seeya:

It also has a certain resemblance to the plague masks that have birdlike noses and hoods or hats over the top of the head.

Indeed it does.

When I saw it I thought it looks rather like a Maya glyph.

Yes, carbuff, I do believe that you're correct on the encapsulation leading to an amazing mummification. He lived in the truck among the wrappers, Poor Guy. I wonder if he was a Veteran. Those military types loved tattoos back in the '60s - '80s. Well, and tats have been popular forever.

Now that it has been mentioned, I do see a skull. Assuming this view is from the PGs left arm, the skull is facing forward. It's a side profile of the skull oozing out of a vertebrae?

BBM

Maybe not a vertebrae, but pelvic bones? Born to bite? Born fighting?
