"Donohue was towing two of her children, ages two and four. At one point, the children's cousin, an 8-year-old boy, was also in the wagon without his mother's consent."

"'One witness told us that the wagon went up on two wheels..."

"Police say Donohue made several laps through the roundabout, causing a traffic jam."

"McKee says Donohue did not think she did anything wrong.

'"She was just indignant about the situation and didn't see what the big deal was," McKee said. "She told our officer, 'I'm just trying to show my kids a good time.'"'

"Police say Donohue was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol."

This was a very busy traffic circle during rush hour.

Yeah she got up to about 30 which is faster than I go on those roundabousts without kids on a wagon... She's awful! And was sober!!

I have lots of them. You do get more adept, but I still treat them with great caution. Best to assume your fellow drivers are not used to them.

Re: stupid woman. I don't think she could even see the kids, based on the hatch height and the kid height. She would have no idea if the kids were in the wagon, in the road, terrified and crying ~ Just awful.

When a big, two-lane roundabout was installed in my town, I managed to avoid it for about a year because it freaked me out so bad. I'm better now but still frequently have to talk myself through it... "okay you're in the far right lane, and that lane only turns right, so now you're gonna keep right and you made it good job!"

The one this person was in is in a more rural area than some, but is big and people can go pretty fast. Also, because of the cement/brick middle median thing, cars wouldn't be able to see the wagon and children until they were rather close or as she went around before they actually entered the circle.

The indignant attitude is the part which bothered me the most, I think. One would think one would at least pretend to be contrite with officers. I just really hope the legal and child protection systems in this case make sure they read any historical information about this family and consider it as a whole. I haven't been able to find any follow up on this case, and Oregon doesn't have a good repository to search.

This woman is lacking any form of common sense and I almost wish she was impaired somehow in order to explain such a lack in judgement.

I will never forget the 1st time our daughter encountered a roundabout and it goes on the list of moments this child has brought us great laughter. Apparently she could not figure out how the roundabout worked and just kept going in circles. She had to call her Daddy to get out of it...

I am shocked by this. There is just nothing in this story that makes sense. I hope that child services does everything in their power to see that children should never be in this woman's care.

A Springfield, Oregon, mom is in jail and facing three counts of reckless endangerment after she took her kids on a joyride recently. The mom, Alana Donahue, was arrested after police received multiple calls from concerned motorists about a woman in a white Ford Taurus pulling a plastic wagonattached by rope to the car's bumperaround a traffic circle with two small children inside. One concerned caller told police they'd nearly hit the wagon.

I think she was just saying roundabouts are scary enough without crazy moms towing their children in wagons?

And yes, can we all call your husband for help with them lol?

A little OT, but I am seriously the world's most alert driver in a roundabout. We have one at Jones Beach by my house and after many years I am still relieved when I get out at the right exit in the right lane. Also, anyone here ever been in the giant one in Rome? It took our taxi a good fifteen minutes and a bunch of trips around before we could exit. Ugh.

Did they take her children away? I'm sure she at least is suffering some kind of mental illness. This is not just a case of the stupids.

Sorry for off-topic, but just browsing the recent threads and the roundabout talk did make me smile! I'm in England, where we have so many roundabouts (there are 4 - two mini, two normal - just on the 4 min drive from my house to my dad's! I think we forget sometimes they aren't so common elsewhere.

That said, this one in south-west England would be one of my worst driving nightmares!

To tow young children behind a car on a main road is just beyond stupidity. There are really no words.

She knows we get a kick out of her, mainly because she is so much like her mother. She is a darling, but like me, things like a roundabout just do not make sense.

Also, anyone is welcome to call her daddy for help. Just throw up the Bat Signal! He has been saving me and my friends since I was 15.
