2017.07.27 - Recipe for Disaster: Marine Corp General John Kelly as Chief of Staff

I am wondering why this respected Marine Corp general would agree to take the COS position. He has to know what a shyteshow he is stepping into.

Those who won't report to him but rather who will report directly to Trump: Scaramucci, Ivanka, Jared

I doubt this general will tolerate sleazeballs like Scaramucci for very long. One of the general's two USMC sons was killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2010. The other son is a Marine Corp major.

This is probably why Trump likes Kelly:

"Kelly indicated days into the administration his interest in having the U.S.–Mexico border wall completed within two years.[26] On April 21, 2017, Kelly said the U.S.–Mexico border wall would begin construction "by the end of the summer."[27] Two days later, Kelly said he believed "a border wall is essential" as there were "tremendous threats" such as drugs and individuals coming into the US.[28] On May 2, Kelly stated his surprise in office holders "rejoicing in the fact that the wall will be slower to be built and, consequently, the southwest border under less control than it could be."

The crassness and dishonesty of Trump and his crew vs. an honorable Irish catholic USMC general tasked with bringing order into chaos?

    Recipe for disaster..........

I'm so tired of this reality show president and dumb ones who voted him in. It's not like we don't have serious issues with North Korea launching missiles..

    He is Trump's kinda guy.

General's 'greatest fear' that military might lower standards for women

Calling it his “greatest fear,” Gen. John F. Kelly, the commander of U.S. Southern Command who is slated to retire at the end of the month, predicted few female troops would be able to meet the physical demands in the traditionally all-male military occupations – primarily in the infantry, armor and special operations fields.
"If we don't change standards, it will be very, very difficult to have any numbers -- any real numbers come into the infantry," Kelly told reporters at the Pentagon.

    Remember Ebola?

'It's literally, "Katie bar the door"': Marine Corps four-star general warns of 'mass migration into the US' if Ebola epidemic hits Central America

'If it breaks out, it's literally, "Katie bar the door",' Gen John Kelly told said during a public discussion at the National Defense University. 'And there will be mass migration into the United States.'

'They will run away from Ebola, or if they suspect they are infected, they will try to get to the United States for treatment.'

"In April, Kelly bluntly challenged members of Congress critical of the Trump administration's aggressive approach to immigration enforcement to either change the laws or "shut up."

It's a disaster no matter how the musical chairs plays out. One thing I am wondering is if Kelley's appointment has anything to do with the possibility that Prince Jared and Princess Ivanka are in such deep doo doo that they maybe considering bowing out of the white house......and maybe even going back to NYC.......maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but a while back one or both of them mentioned that they would review their options every six months......also, if they get their security clearances yanked for lying about how many foreign nationals they have dealt with and also about their financial status......they would have no business in the oval office. I don't trust Kelley (sp) but i'm sorry to say that, because generally, I trust that Generals take their oaths seriously.

General Alexander Haig. Who later served under Reagan and became famous when on the day Reagan was shot he went on TV and stated "I'm in charge here". Which gave the impression he was attempting to usurp the Vice-President. Which he later claimed he was not trying to do, that he was just trying to "reassure the nation.

    ========

Not the same playbook because Nixon was capable of taking advice.

I would not be at all surprised if they returned to NYC. But not until Kushner is granted either immunity or a pardon.

I read he was so drunk that staff watched what he was doing.

I don' t know if there are any staff members who are capable around Trump

Considering Gen. Kelly's history, better that he run Trump's crazy WH than DHS.

"General Kelly’s aggressive oversight of the illegal military prison at Guantánamo Bay disqualifies him to head the Department of Homeland Security. Presiding over a population of detainees not charged or convicted of crimes, over whom he had maximum custodial control, Kelly treated them with brutality. His response to the detainees’ peaceful hunger strike in 2013 was punitive force-feeding, solitary confinement, and rubber bullets. Furthermore, he sabotaged efforts by the Obama administration to resettle detainees, consistently undermining the will of his commander in chief. His temperament and actions make him unfit to lead an agency that currently holds tens of thousands of immigrants, including many fleeing violence and many in long-term indefinite detention.

Kelly’s recent vow to end “political correctness” in U.S. national security policy is a thinly veiled endorsement of policies and practices that are illegal and immoral, including torture and racial and religious profiling. His statement is a clear warning sign, and the Senate must reject his nomination to preserve and protect the rule of law."

Well, here's a sweeping generalization for ya but I doubt anyone that Trump names for any position within his realm is going to personally possess much character, moral fiber, or faithfulness to the United States' founding precepts.

Trump looks out through his ego eyes and chooses individuals who mirror him in some way.

He then cycles them out the door as he becomes bored with them, they threaten to upstage him (I think Scaramucci's stay will be brief), or they strike some kind of discordant note for Trump in his wind chime of dysfunction.

General Kelly has taken some positions that meet with Trump's favor but saying, "You're fired" is so invigorating to this commander in chief that all hires should leave their bags partially packed in the closet and hang on to the homestead.
