Police in the US are continuing their investigation into the death of a Limerick man who was killed in a suspected domestic disturbance at his home in North Carolina.

Jason Corbett (39), who is originally from the Janesboro area of Limerick city, was found at Panther Creek Court in Wallburg with fatal head injuries early on Sunday morning. The father of two children, moved to America four years ago after his first wife Mags Corbett died following an asthma attack in 2006. Its understood Mr Corbett was living in North Carolina with his new partner who is American and who previously worked as a child minder.

Thomas Martens, a former FBI agent, told 911 he had been “in an argument” with his son-in-law and that he had “struck him with a baseball bat”, the Irish Daily Mail reports. According to an police incident report seen by the paper, the incident was recorded as “an assault” by 911.
...
His wife Molly was believed to have been the main suspect but police in the US have confirmed that her father Thomas Martens (65), a retired FBI agent, is also a person of interest.

"Have you ever been strangled?" The prosecutor could turn this around on the Defense in the closing argument. He could ask..."Have you ever been beaten with a baseball bat? Have you ever felt the pain of its force into your nose, your skull over and over and over and over and over...as you try to move away? Have you ever been beaten with with a landscape brick?

If you wish to believe the Defense theory of the case which has no physical evidence other than the story of the killers...then you MUST also believe the truth of the evidence. You must weigh the two against each other.

You must make yourself feel the terror Jason felt...as a man whose suitcases he had just carried into his home...pursued him, swinging that bat. As the woman he shared his children with, for whom he left his family in Ireland, cornered him with the landscape Stone...seeing her face leaning over him, bringing the stone down over and over to assure his death."

You must feel that terror. Jason was real. You must feel his terror and his pain as he tried and tried to move away."

The prosecutors could end the case that way.

When we speak of fear as a culture in America...why do we only attribute fear and terror to females...like Poor Nell on the railroad tracks in old Westerns? Any Mother of a little boy knows that gender does not preclude the feeling of vulnerability, fear and at times terror. The defense wants us to feel the fear of TM and MM...they hadn't a scratch on them. They were the pursuers with bat and brick, not the pursued.

What about Jason's fear as he tried to move away? As he tried to save his life? Can we please put ourselves in his place! The killers are feeling powerful, not fearful...this killing is being achieved with them in pursuit..two against one....IN TOTAL CONTROL! Molly and Tom Martens are the Hunters...not the prey. No matter how this started, the evidence, even at this point...shows they were fearLESS, untouched Hunters...Jason was the terrified beaten Prey!

I pray that Jason's mind did not go to his children as he was followed, swung at and beaten to death. I hope he wasn't looking at TM and MM and thinking , "My God, please don't leave my children at the mercy of my killers." I hope he was not also burdened by his fears for his children being placed with those who were swinging the bat, slamming down the brick into his brains, his flesh.

Lers concentrate on the fear of the beaten man, the victim, the one that was pursued and had his skull smashed over and over.

Thanks for posting that link Be True, I had been looking for it for ages. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-ex-FBI-agent-father-killed-baseball-bat.html

So, the initial 911 call was made at 3h02min17sec (am) and lasted for 13 minutes and 50 seconds, so the call was finished at 3h16min07sec(am).

- Emergency Medical Services first arrived at 3.13.5am
- Fire Department first arrived at 3.14am
- Law Enforcement officers first arrived at 3.16.3am

Might be a few seconds discrepancy between the services actually arrived (like where LE arrived at 30 seconds past 3.16am) and logged the arrival but it looks like TM was on the phone to the 911 when each service arrived. Unless he made an immediate phone call after finishing up with the 911 operator. Which service stated that he was on the phone when they arrived?

If I recall correctly it was LE who met him on the porch on his mobile and he wasn't allowed go back into the property afterwards.

Your post has highlighted something for Me. He was on the phone to 911 when paramedics arrived as per report at 3.13.
"They are here" "I have to get my daughter out of here" the call ends so he can go do that.

Then why 3 minutes later at 3.16 when LE arrive is he out on his mobile with black shorts on ? In 3 minutes he manages to get his shorts and mobile which possibly were in the basement room where he supposidly slept and his wife never came out, he never explained what had happened? His mobile wasn't on his person if he had underwear on in the room and we know he called 911 from house phone. So he had to go get it imo. SM is reported to have been calm, so my point is would this not suggest she had plenty of time to take in what happened, that she knew of it before the 911 call, that she knew not to leave the room?

All just my opinions

Your post speaks for the victim and reminds us to be mindful and empathetic at all times of their suffering

Thanks, great post.

Definition of the word "strangled." From google:

"To squeeze or constrict the neck of (a person or animal), especially so as to cause death.
"the victim was strangled with a scarf"

The use of the word "strangled" by the Defense is manipulative. There is no evidence that Molly...even if we accept her version...was near death, approaching unconsciousness, fainting, vomiting, or showing any of the powerful side effects of "constriction."

The Defense is not saying "choked"...they want a word that brings impending death into the jurors mind...although they have only the killers word and no other evidence.

I hope the Prosecution brings this up in closing. Attorneys with evidence on their side, do not need to manipulate the jury.

Having ones hand on another's throat also has degrees of pressure. If, and I repeat "IF" Jason's hands were on Molly's throat...the pressure must have been very slight if all she had was redness, especially after "pulling at" and rubbing her throat repeatedly herself. Remember they say he had hands on her the whole time. But she walked away with nothing to show.

He could have snapped her neck in an instance...but he left no mark.

Jason was the Hunted, not the Hunters. The wounds prove that.

"Have you ever been chased by two people, one beating you with a bat, the other smashing you with a brick...as you tried to find a corner, a bathroom, a place to escape them and the pain? "

That's the Prosecution reply!

did the nurse explain why she perscribed a powerful sedative for foot pain instead of pain relief ?

No Bernie I don't believe that was mentioned and what a good point.

Again I ask did she know of MM admitted mental health history and alleged abuse of medications with a stint in rehab?
Doubtful as the tradazone is such a powerful drug.

No, but she should at some point..! Traz is neither a sleeping pill nor an analgesic.
I suppose it was something that had previously been prescribed for Molly in the past, along with God knows what else.. Useless speculating at this stage.

I am not sure whether any or all of these witnesses can be recalled at a future time?
Does anybody happen to know, please?

I think...emphasizing the word "think" that they can be recalled during the prosecutions rebuttal case. Maybe one of our attorneys can let us know if that's true.

Hopefully Sandy made some really noteworthy points in this regard yesterday too..

Do we know for certain that he called from the house phone? I haven't seen it confirmed although there is a heck of a lot to read. I found it strange that the 911 operator asked for the number, you would expect the number to come up on their screens.

Is it possible or likely that MM took a shower and changed clothes between the times the paramedics witnessed her administering cpr(badly) and when she was interviewed by police? I still cannot understand why her clothes were not more bloody?

I'm uncertain where ref to black shorts originated?
also if you read the search warrants, police sought records of SM calls/texts to MM number. SM number was on warrants, A similar warrant was sought for tM but it was sM's number they referenced. This is odd.

I remember an earlier thread, way back where paramedics sought MM DOB and she gave an incorrect DOB..

I wondered why at the time..
Sorry, I meant to respond to your query Frizby, its possible he was calling from a blocked mobile device and its possible its a protocol for double checking info for accuracy, employed by eMT/911 services routinely

When they asked for the number he was calling from he asked mm. He also said he didn't know the number because he was a visitor
