Body identified as missing Sudbury woman

The body of forty-two-year-old Daphne Kochar was discovered by hunters in Burwash Township on Tuesday.

Police will only say the death is being treated as `highly suspicious.' More details are expected to be released about how she died after forensic testing is completed.

Search for missing woman enters third week

Nov. 6, Daphne Kochar is last seen at her resident in the Ramsey Lake area. She informed her kids she was going to run errands. At 5 pm, Kochar failed to show up for a family function and was later reported missing.

Nov. 9, Kochar's Honda Odyssey is found parked outside of an apartment complex on Caswell Dr. in the city's south end. The vehicle was seized and sent for examination.

Nov. 7 to 17, land and water searches are performed in the Ramsay and Bethel Lake areas without success.

Nov. 11 to 21, the Kochar residence, along with two other family vehicle's are searched by police looking for clues. Police have released the home and all three searched vehicles to the Kochar family.

Man makes plea for wife's safe return

A Sudbury doctor and his family made an impassioned plea for members of the public to come forward if they have information about his missing wife, who was last seen Sunday morning.

Dr. Harinder Kochar made the plea at a hastily-called press conference at Greater Sudbury Police headquarters Tuesday afternoon. It has been more than two days since his wife Daphne Kochar, 42, went missing.

Daphne Kochar was last seen by her family in their Ramsey-Lake area home Nov. 5, 2005, although it was the next day before her husband, obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Harinder Kochar, reported her missing. It would be Dec. 27 of that year before Kochar's remains, rolled in a carpet, were found by hunters, 200 metres down Trout Lake Road, off Highway 69 near Estaire...

A year ago, an Ontario Provincial Police spokesman said the service's criminal investigations branch was still investigating Kochar's murder, along with Greater Sudbury Police Service...

Harinder (Harry) Kochar, who left Sudbury shortly after Daphne's death, remarried and set up a medical practice in Lindsay. He was found dead in his medical office in August 2012. While no cause of death was released, police said no foul play or criminality were suspected in his death. Kochar's second wife said the doctor left a note, presumably a suicide note, saying he didn't kill Daphne.
