August 3, 2017 Police have nabbed a Queens man who they suspect is behind five sex assaults and one rape in Forest Park over the course of two years, NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said.
Mark Andrade, 46, of Richmond Hill, was expected to be charged in connection with the March 29, 2013, attempted rape of a 24-year-old woman, police said. Andrade snuck up behind the woman, struck her with a stun gun and sexually assaulted her, they said.
But the woman fought back, grabbing a beer bottle out of his pocket in the struggle and throwing it into the brush, according to Boyce. Investigators were able to zero in on Andrade after they recovered the beer bottle at the crime scene and swabbed it for DNA.

Cold case arrest: DNA from beer bottle leads police to suspect in Queens park sex assault
The arrest of 45-year-old Mark Andrade of Richmond Hills, Queens, was announced Thursday. He's charged with one count of rape in a March 29, 2013, attack in Forest Park.
Fast forward to a week ago, when police were alerted to a hit on that DNA. Andrade was arrested in Nassau County on Long Island for insurance fraud on July 21. Since he was incarcerated, a sample of his DNA was taken and came up came up as a match in the database. The victim in the case was also able to help identify him.
Here are the details from those attacks:
    - 3/25/2011 (Friday) at 11:30 a.m. -- Victim was 54-year-old woman jogging on bridal path
    - 9/7/2011 (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. Victim was 13-year-old girl jogging on bridal path
    - 8/15/2012 (Wednesday) at 1 p.m. Victim was 34-year-old woman jogging on bridal path
    - 11/28/2012 (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. Victim was 40-year-old woman walking her dog on bridal path
    - 3/29/2013 (Friday) at 7 p.m. Victim was 24-year-old woman jogging on bridal path
    - 8/26/2013 (Monday) at 4:30 p.m. Victim was 69-year-old woman jogging on bridal path

The suspect has six prior arrests, none of which were for sex crimes and would not have caused his DNA to be added to a database. The last arrest caused that to happen, and it's what ultimately led to his arrest.

I'm glad they ran the DNA in all the cases. I know there is a problem in a lot of cities with backlogged rape kits.

Thank goodness for the young woman who, despite being shocked with a stun gun and humiliated by the alleged creep, grabbed the beer from his pocket and tossed it.
From that same bottle LE managed to get DNA.
It always interests me how a composite pic of a perp matches up with the real thing.. ribm.

So far he’s being charged just with a sexual assault on March 29, 2013 — when he shocked the victim with a stun gun — as investigators look to tie him to the five other sexual assault cases, officials said.
He shocked the 23-year-old victim multiple times with a stun gun in the March 29 assault, demanding she show her b---sts and cr---h, according to the complaint. He also told her, "we're going to have sex, I have a condom," before sexually assaulting her.

As he attacked her she removed a bottle of Beck's beer from his pocket and threw it into a nearby bush, afraid it was a weapon, the complaint said.
Investigators retrieved that bottle as part of the crime scene and swabbed it for DNA, which helped identify him four years later, officials said.
