FL - Monroe Co., Skull, bones fnd under Card Sound Bridge in North Key Largo, Aug'17

MONROE COUNTY (CBSMiami) — A couple of divers hunting for lobster underneath the Card Sound Bridge on Sunday found more than they bargained for when they discovered human bones.

The two witnesses told Deputy David Minor they traveled to the Keys from Naples for the day to go lobstering. While under the North Key Largo bridge just before noon, they spotted a human skull and several other bones which appeared to them to be human.

Once they spotted the bones, they told a nearby FWC officer who called the sheriff's office.

The bones were turned over to the medical examiner. So far, detectives said an initial examination of the bones hasn't revealed any details as far as who they belonged to, how long they've been there, or what caused the person's death.

The skull looks quite weathered. It could have been there for years. Though, I'm not sure what the cream colored splotches are.

I'm not sure either-- Could it be cartilage? I was hoping someone knowledgeable here would be able to tell us.

It looks more like some kind of deposit on the bone. Maybe some kind of coral? Or a calcium deposit?

There's nothing in the picture to give a perspective on size, but it looks rather delicate. The lack of brow ridge makes me think it's female or a child. On the other hand, the skull sutures seem to be completely smoothed out, which happens with age. Possibly they're just not visible under the deposits.

The squarish eye sockets are more common with AA ancestry, I think?

It's hard to say for sure but it looks like there could be some damage to the left side (our right).

All of which is just guesswork on my part.

Wonder how the currents direct in that area -- we all know Isabella Hellman was "lost at sea" off shore.

I have no idea if it's possible with the currents either, but maybe it's Austin or Perry? ( boys who went missing in a boat from Jupiter) hoping this brings some sort of closure for a family somewhere.

We were just on Card Sound Bridge over the Christmas/New Years holidays for our annual trip to the Keys.

The area sees A LOT of fishermen and boaters. There is even a restaurant/bar "Alabama Jacks". The bridge goes over a sound and connects the mainland to the outer island of north Key Largo.

My husband and I took a ride around that area and once off of Card Sound Bridge, if you make a left, you arrive in a BEAUTIFUL gated community of multi-million dollar homes, called The Ocean Reef Club.

The NOrth Key Largo area is very quiet and mostly consists of state botanical and natural wildlife refugee.

Did they say which side of the bridge?

Just to give you an idea of where in the Keys Card Sound Bridge is, I located Alabama Jacks on a google map. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Al...!4d-80.3787486

We'll keep you posted. When I was looking at the skull, Tammy was the first name that popped into my head.

Are human bones found under Card Sound Road Bridge those of James Dzadura?

    https://www.local10.com/news/florida...-james-dzadura

A human skull and other bones were found Sunday under the bridge that connects Miami-Dade and Monroe counties by a couple from Naples who were diving for lobsters.

Some are speculating that the bones might belong to Dzadura, of Homestead, who was reported missing in December 2013 when he was 38 years old.

Dzadura was wanted by police in Miami on a sexual battery charge in 2013

A relative contacted authorities on Dec. 30, 2013, after receiving a text message from Dzadura that said he was on the Card Sound Bridge with a 40-pound weight tied to him and he was going to jump from the bridge.

Deputies responded to the scene just before 1 a.m. and found Dzadura's minivan parked at the bridge, with the keys in the ignition.

A wallet, a 40-pound dumbbell weight and other items were found inside the unlocked vehicle.

Miami-Dade police detectives also found Dzadura's cellphone on the railing of the bridge, about halfway up the east side.

The skull could belong to one of the many Cuban Refugees that have been lost at sea trying to make it to Florida through the years. There have been so so so many of them.

    http://www.miamiherald.com/news/loca...122142904.html

    - More than 100 Cuban migrants have landed in the Keys in less than two weeks, ... and women manage to stop at least 80 percent of the migrants heading to South Florida. ... “There are dozens lost at sea.” ... A rustic vessel made by Cuban migrants is docked behind Key Largo Ocean Resort in Key Largo.

A motor vessel heard 'a voice in the water' off the Florida Keys Monday, and a helicopter search found one Cuban refugee on a raft. He reported he had been part of a group of five that left Cuba last week, but the other four either died or were lost at sea.

Would like to know dimensions of the skull...?

I assume size could point to child vs. adult/ young adult relatively quickly?
