2017.08.10 - New Poll Shows Half of Republicans Would Support Postponing 2020 Election

Can someone with access to WaPo help us out here? The original story is on WaPo and I has no subscription

    https://www.deathandtaxesmag.com/340...ime=1502376432

"More than half — 52 percent — of Republicans said they would be fine with postponing the 2020 election if the president proposed it under his “election integrity committee.” That number rose to 56 percent if Republican leadership in Congress backed the proposal as well."

    This is troubling, tbh.

"At a minimum, they show that a substantial number of Republicans are amenable to violations of democratic norms that are more flagrant than what is typically proposed (or studied)."

No. There are no circumstances at all under which a sitting President may do this. The United States has held presidential elections on schedule in the midst of the American Civil War, as well as several major economic crises, including the Great Depression, and also World War II. The President has no say in when his or her term ends or when their potential successor is elected.

I don't think they can do that...

This situation is hypothetical and is unlikely to happen, but that doesn't mean the results aren't troubling. There are way too many people who are willfully ignorant and eager follow Trump wherever he leads them.

Well, someone paid for this poll... who commissioned Monkey Cage?
And, someone formed the election integrity committee that is demanding personal information from every voter.
And, someone led the charge claiming millions and millions of illegal votes despite state elections boards findings to the contrary.
And, there is that pesky Russia interference matter...

    And...
Supreme Court to hear potentially landmark case on partisan gerrymandering

So, no, I am not worked up, but just know a sinking ship called trump desperation when I see one...

Obviously it's hypothetical. That's not even the point, here.

People should only talk about and care about the things I think they should talk about and care about.

Seriously? 52% of a major US party are willing to throw away all that is dear to their country for one guy?

Surely this is made up, but super interesting that someone would go to this trouble. Is it meant to influence Republicans into thinking you have to think like the majority of the party or you can't be one of us? The whole idea of this poll certainly makes them look foolish - maybe that was the point?

    Sheesh, one guy.
