I like to make it clear I've never considered JC to be some saintly godlike man of perfection. I'm sure he had his faults, his moments of anger, just like all of us. But this was a man that was truly revered on two sides of the Atlantic...by his neighbors in Ireland and NC..".the King of the Cul De Sac"...by his coworkers....by his many, many friends. Not just his family, who might make exception for him...but by his first wife's family...by the sister that lived in the house with him and Mags.

Lets keep that in mind: there was an adult "witness" to his day-to-day life with Mags...Mags sister. Hopefully, she will give testimony in the civil trial and it will be potent.

But I don't think anyone who has not read Keith Maginn's book can fully understand the challenges that JC faced living with MM.

it really is an essential part of the story. KM relates the impossibility of pleasing her, reassuring her. He wrote her loving poetry. These poems are in the book. But she would take every gesture as rejection. She could not be satisfied.

Isn't that inventing abuse?

Can you imagine living with a woman who you know is trying to record you so that she can take away your precious children? Can you imagine watching her indulge them with your hard earned money and at the same time frighten them with stories that YOU were going to take them away from her?

Coming home each night to that?

Jason was trapped. Long before she trapped him in that bedroom, he was trapped by her manipulation of those children and her tape recorders and threats.

One other thought. You have to believe that they gave ABC the best they had. That must have been the worst tape they had on JC. And all we heard was a man trying to be respected in his own home. And she had no fear of him, did she? She kept on uignoring him.

She didn't have "to wait for her parents" to be in the house, as she earlier claimed.

She's bold as brass.

It makes me sad to think of what he was living with in the run up to his murder. She's a street angel and a house devil, although I expect she took pains to hide it until she was safely married.

And also all that was played was a clip of an audio, there was no beginning, there was no end. For all anyone knows, she may have instigated it. That bit most definitely was not the beginning of it. I am amazed that people have come to the conclusion that JC was an abuser based on that little bit of audio. I suspect that the reason they played that clip was because of SC at the end, it tied in with the rest of their narrative.

Let whoever has never had an argument cast the first stone.

This morning, she's in a cell. TM is in a cell. They are eating prison food, drinking prison coffee. They must adhere to prison routine. They must shower in communal showers. They each know that they face 20plus years of nothing better than the life they have this morning.

SM is at home, still surrounding by her pretty things, her favorite foods, her comfortable bed. But she knows...so much is at risk in this civil trial. So much more money to spend on attorneys. And, the family secret about MM is seeping through the phony noise. That secret seems to have been so important to her and TM to hide...more important than getting their only daughter the help she has long needed.

Lots of secrets will be exposed in that civil trial IMO.

Ah would you pull the other one, it's got bells on. A house of over 5,000 sqft and they use the Master Bedroom to paint an ugly rough paving slab. And not only that, it is not kept on the floor, it has pride of place on the lovely furniture. With such a controlling husband which she claims, you would think it would be the last place you would be doing school projects let alone paint bricks.

He told the Sunday Independent that the brick was part of an arts and crafts project for Jason's children. He says Molly Martens-Corbett was helping the children with the school assignment in the couple's bedroom - assisting them as they painted the brick.
The bizarre presence of a heavy piece of masonry in the bedroom was one of the key pieces of evidence that convinced the jury of the guilt of the two co-accused, a jury foreman said after the verdict was delivered.

But, Mr Earnest was critical that this explanation of the brick in the bedroom as part of a homework assignment was not presented to the jury.

As soon as I seen that light cream carpet I knew that story was a load of rubbish
aAA

Just wondering, about this brick and the claim, which we have heard before anyway, that it was a school project but now it was there as the kids were going to paint it, as MM also claimed in the ABC 20/20 program.

Since MM was really the only person who could have said this, would it not stand to reason that if such an explanation was allowed by the Judge, would that not have meant that MM would have had to testify?

Aside from the fact that a brick would do a lot of damage to the beautiful furniture, did'nt she say that the children were never allowed into the bedroom, why would a children's art project be there.

Oh! Well spotted.

See this is what happens to pathological liars, they forget what lies they've told from one day to the next. No wonder she didn't want to take the witness stand, the prosecutor would have tied her up in a myriad of knots.

Did she specifically say that it was for a SCHOOL project?

The murder happened on the 2nd of August, so unless they were attending summer school, why would a lump of brick be displayed on a nightstand in the bedroom, for a school art project during the summer holidays?

Honestly, kinda wish the judge had allowed it, had allowed MM to try and explain, so she could trip herself up on that ludicrous excuse.

The judge didn't stop her from trying to explain, she refused to take the witness stand as is her right.

All the M's defense had to do was create reasonable doubt.
They were banking on the lies about Mr Fp.
They were banking on the children's testimonies
They were banking on TM's credentials as former FBI
They were banking on TM's testimony and this was rehearsed beforehand, lots of times IMO
They were banking on the jury not being the sharpest tools in the box.

They did not bank on an astute judge and the evidence he disallowed.
They did not bank on TM being such an arrogant pr*** on the stand
They did not bank on having to consider MM to testify as they hadn't prepared her IMO
They did not bank on the passion of the Davidson County sheriffs department
They did not bank on a unanimous guilty verdict for both.

Neither did they bank on this forum teasing out the evidence and putting light into the muddle

They did not bank on the likeability of the C family
They did not bank on the wisdom and intelligence of Mr Fp who made a sworn statement before he died.
They did not bank on the people of Limerick and Ireland to support the Cs.

The M's were banking on making money off this trial after they were acquitted. The ABC show was the pilot!
They are banking on the american people coughing up for their appeal (though I see one troubled soul from Ireland has donated today) The appeal may not even go ahead as there's not much money coming in to pay for it

What else have they left to bank on?
The ME duo?

That's it!

There is nothing else.

If the brick was part of an arts and craft project, then I chuckle with amusement at my own fantasy that M and J in heaven also had a team working on this trial and on the minds of everyone involved and are one step ahead of M1551729
They weren't banking on that either!

Well. I can see why the Martens/Earnests chose that fundraising website instead of the better known alternatives.

Not going to link it, but here's some information from their faq:

What if I don't reach my fundraising target?
We're a 'keep-it-all' personal crowdfunding site meaning that even if you don't reach your fundraising goal, you still keep all of the funds raised (minus our industry low fees).

When do I receive the funds raised?

Unlike many other crowdfunding sites, you don't have to wait until your campaign ends before accessing your donations.
