Fayette County authorities are investigating the discovery of human remains in Bullskin Township. The remains were discovered Monday in a wooded area off of Bear Rocks Road, between Jeffrey and Forest Lake roads. The coroner described the remains as “mostly bones” and “We have no report of any missing persons ... so we may have something that has been there a very long time.”

This is interesting. He was an itinerant carnival worker, allegedly shot in Adelaide, not that far from Bear Rocks. When he disappeared, locals thought he moved on with the carnival.

This is in my neighborhood, btw.

Johnson is in NamUS but his name is wrongly entered as "Johson". DNA is not yet in there and no dentals are available, so this comparison may take a while. The only thing that works against this i.d. is the length of time Johnson has been missing. Could his remains have been there on the ground undetected since 1981?

I live less than 10 minutes from where these remains are found .
Just some background on the area :

Bear Rocks used to be a ski resort but closed in about 1973 . Since then it has developed into a community of rustic homes and ski chalets .

Back in the 1980s it had a reputation for a place where drug dealers lived . ( not saying everyone there was a bad apple ) , but it is wooded and rocky so it affords a great deal of privacy. As a matter of fact while growing up I recall many times that cars running from the police turned into Bear Rocks and lost them on the many winding roads.
As a matter of fact within the same 24 hours that the body was found , this article appeared in the local paper : http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2017/08/15/arrests-marijuana-plants-seized-fayette-county-raid/
I would bet that this was uncovered during the human remains investigation.

In my personal opinion , you don't go through Bear Rocks to get to anywhere unless you live there or are familiar with it . It's not a direct route to anywhere .

Also , while thinking of matches for this persons identity , it might be worthy to note that it is a mere minutes from Westmoreland County.

Some previous cases that took place at Bear Rocks that I am including not because I feel that they are related to this case , but simply to set the background and history of the area :

I've attached 2 pictures of maps of the area . One is an overview of the area being investigated , the other is a closer view with street names circled. They say the remains were found near Bear Rocks Road between Forest Lake Rd and Jeffery Rd.IMG_2783.jpgIMG_2784.jpg

She was last seen in Donegal, I'm originally from Laurelville, Donegal is only a couple miles from where the remains were located.

I'm from Donegal and I saw Michele Fawcett's page this morning on Charley Project

I had the same thought yellowladybug .
I guess we will know more when they release their findings , but you are right she would be the closest missing person geographically ( Donegal being about less than 10 min. From Bear Rocks )

So my friend lives in Bear Rocks right by where these remains were found. She asked me last night if I could find any updates about these remains. She called the police years back when she heard a girl screaming "bloody murder" and she was blown off.
I just emailed the Forensic anthropologist at Mercyhurst University that examined the remains to ask if their have been any updates. He read my email but hasn't responded. I hope he gets back to me, but I am not holding my breath.

Three years and not even a NamUs page?? I thought that was pretty standard at this point. I wonder if they've been able to get a DNA profile run through CODIS. It's frustrating that there's nowhere to check for updates.

Is there not even a NamUs page for this case? Have there been any announcements since they found the remains if it's a male or a female? Frustrating that there's no page to check back for updates!

Nothing that I found... I emailed the forensic anthropologist from Mercyhurst this morning from work - when I left this afternoon he still never responded. He probably thinks I am some crazy lady. If I don’t hear from him, I will email the Fayette County Coroner.

I know it's been a while, but has there been any progress on this case? Did you get in contact with the forensic anthropologist?

I never heard a word back. He read my email and that was it.

@chaddylex got any media contacts there that we could all (politely) email one after the after with enquiries? Gentle push in the direction of reporting an update?!

Let me look and see if I can find anyone. I just can't believe nothing else has ever been mentioned and that the remains aren't listed in NamUs

Okay, I just sent this to Channel 2 - KDKA news

Good Afternoon!
Attached is a story your news team covered in 2017. I am wondering if you would happen to know if there have been any updates on this? Human Remains Found In Bullskin Township, State Police Investigating

I belong to an online community where we try to match missing people with unidentified remains and I was just asked last week if I have heard any updates, which I have not.

I was wondering if you could help? The remains aren't listed in NamUs (National Missing and Unidentified Person System)

Thank you!
