ORLANDO, Fla. - Orange County deputies are offering a $5,000 reward as they try to identify a badly decomposed body that was found earlier this month in an Orange County condominium.

A death investigation was launched Aug. 8 after after the owner of the Tymberskan condo on Tymberwood Lane noticed a foul smell and called authorities.

Orange County sheriff's deputies said the body was that of a black woman who was 5 feet 3 inches tall and 20 to 40 years old. She had a tongue ring and a silver ring on her left hand.

Investigators hope the ring — with its golden center lined with diamonds sandwiched between two metal bands engraved with small circles — will jog the memory of the mystery woman’s loved ones, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jane Watrel said.

A stepfather and his stepson tipped off investigators Aug. 8 when they went to visit an apartmentthey ownedin the 4100 block of Tymberwood Lane. They hadn’t been to the property in about a year, and a foul scent filling the home alerted them enough to call 911, Watrel said.

Deputies found a dead woman inside, but the sweltering Florida heat and humidity had done no favors for investigators hoping to identify her — or even establish an approximate time of her death, Detective Brian Savelli said.

Savelli said he believes the woman was about 5 feet, 3 inches tall with dark hair. Detectives don’t know how much she weighed.
The diamond-studded ring was found on her left hand, Watrel said. They also found two piercings with her body, one of which they believe was a tongue ring. Investigators don’t know where the other piercing belonged.

That's an unusual ring. Feel like I've seen something similar somewhere...

The victim was identified Saturday as Andrea Powell, 30, after a relative contacted deputies to say that Powell hadn’t been heard from in months. The relative recognized the jewelry.

Deputies found Powell’s body in an apartment on the 4100 block of Tymberwood Lane in the Tymber Skan neighborhood on the morning of Aug. 8.

The area is known for high crime.
Investigators released photos of the woman’s jewelry, including a diamond-studded ring, on Aug. 17 in the hope that someone would recognize it. Because of the condition of the body, it is unclear how Powell died, Watrel said.

The Sheriff’s Office is offering up to $5,000 for anyone with information on the case
