Salisbury search for missing woman continues tonight with drone, dogs

Salisbury Township police, aided by a small army of volunteers, searched into Wednesday night for the 78-year-old woman who went missing from a nursing home in the morning.

“She has not been found,” police Sgt. Donald Sabo said at 8:10 p.m. “We received two phone calls from people who thought they saw her, but we couldn’t confirm anything.”

How do they just walk out of their nursing homes and no one notices?

How do they just walk out of their nursing homes and no one notices?

The same thing happened with my grandmother last month---ironically, in the same area. She had dementia and wandered off the porch of the home without anyone seeing her. I hope Ms. Penn is found safe soon!

How do they just walk out of their nursing homes and no one notices?

Because they don't want to spend the money for wrist tags and sensors that tell them when an individual has passed through the perimeter of their facility. I know families that have this in their homes for their special needs kids. Prisons now also use this technology. Reprehensible that retirement and elder care facilities don't have this.

This is disturbing that Audrey disappeared. I keep looking for updates and there is very little being published. There is now a 10K reward for information leading to Audrey Penn: http://www.mcall.com/news/breaking/...are-home-missing-resident-20170826-story.html

Looking at Google Maps, it looks like a wooded area directly behind the facility where she lived. But, her sister indicates she could not walk well. I think the Lehigh Parkway connects to the wooded area and the Parkway has paved trails. It also has a community of homeless people. Could she be with them?

I have read police used dogs, but does anyone know where the dogs lead? Did she go towards Cedar Crest Blvd or into the woods? Could she have gotten into someone's unlocked car?

I feel terrible for this lady. She is a retired nurse and took care of others all her life and when she needed care the most, other healthcare professionals failed her. So sad.

There are no large scale searches with volunteers and the local volunteer fire companies organized either. Why? I keep thinking it's because dogs lead them to a parking lot or road. The wooded area isn't that big.......volunteer groups could easily cover it.

This is such a mystery. A horrible one.

I went to Woodview Terrace and all along the Fish Hatchery road and the Lehigh Parkway. There are a lot of people out jogging, walking, and riding bicycles today because it is beautiful weather.

I did not see any police activity or search dogs. I saw one woman zig-zagging thru bushes and trees at the Fish Hatchery. She was looking closely underneath brush areas. I believe she was searching. Other than that, I saw no one who looked like an official SAR person.

I did notice that Woodland Terrace is set back in a complex of medical buildings. There has to be cameras all over the place. I hope they checked all footage.

I was also thinking that the last time she was seen (0330) is also often a time of shift change for 12 hour staff. Could she have gotten in a staff member's car?

Were there maintenance trucks, delivery trucks, or trash pick up being conducted between 0330-0800? Could Audrey have climbed on the back of a work truck? In the bed of a pick-up truck?

I just think if she entered the woods, she would have been found by dogs. There are steep hills, thick brush, and water. So it's possible she is in there, but it seems a dog would pick up her scent. And, her sister stated she could not have gotten far on her own due to mobility issues.

I just wish the police would provide an update on the search efforts.

Wolfpack SAR is located right in the area. Wonder if they have done anything to search? They have a FB page.

It does not sound like she is able to walk very well. But, if she is able to get around there are a ton of places she could be. He is the link to the satelite google maps of the area..

https://www.google.com/maps/place/1...2!3m1!1s0x89c43a8793f9fc1b:0xe10c1da79a3550e3

I know that exact area very well. If she went into the woods, it is possible she went downwards towards the Little Lehigh Creek. There is an old spring house behind the Indian Museum, not sure how well it's locked up. Then there is also the deep ditch along 309 she could have tumbled into. Just don't see much more in the way of egress points.

I could swear I read something about her mobility, but I am not finding anything now!!! Maybe I was confusing this with another case of missing from a hospital setting. Who knows, but I sure hope that they find Audrey soon. It is not looking so good now that she has been missing over a week out there. Would definately appreciate a pleasant surprise!

Multiple mcall articles state Audrey's sister said she had difficulty walking and believes she could not get far on her own.

Yes, they were involved. I wish the police would share if a dog at least picked up a trail and pointed in the direction Audrey went. Did she go toward the road or the woods?

I also think there must be multiple cameras in the area. There are businesses and a busy intersection leading to a hospital. If she didnt show up on those cameras, it increases the likelyhood that she went toward the woods/fish hatchery and Lehigh Parkway.

Last Saturday, people were in and around that springhouse. They weren't searchers, but were doing some kind of an activity.

I wonder if she was actually on camera leaving the facility. Wouldn't they also have cameras in the parking lot that would give a direction of travel? They are not giving out much info at all.
