Christine Slinger was last seen August 20. Officials say they believe the young mother went to meet with the father of her 8-year-old daughter to discuss custody issues. “We are so worried, we want to find her,” said her sister-in-law. “The detective just told us that the father of her child killed himself yesterday. The same day he was suppose to take a polygraph.”

New Philadelphia police went to an apartment on North Broadway on Monday afternoon to look for the missing woman and her daughter.

They found 35-year-old Steven T. Stafford II and the 8-year-old, but not the mother.

According to a New Philadelphia police report, the child was placed in the custody of her grandmother, the mother of the missing woman, who reported her daughter missing.

Nelson said detectives believe that after Stafford picked up Slinger at her Massillon home Sunday, he drove along State Route 800 to the area of Sandy Valley Estates near Magnolia to discuss custody of their daughter.

He said that investigators noted that according to Stafford, Slinger demanded to be let out of the car at that time.

Police are asking people along State Route 800 between Massillon and New Philadelphia to be on the lookout for Slinger.

The ex was questioned and then found dead later in his apartment of a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head .....This doesn't sound like it's going to end well!!

Christine Slinger was last seen around 7:30 p.m. Sunday — two days before her child’s father died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

SANDY TOWNSHIP About two dozen people gathered Thursday morning in the Sandy Valley Estates mobile home park to begin searching for missing Christine Slinger.

“Anything is possible,” said Alice Guerrero, who lives in Sandy Valley Estates and said she knows Slinger and her family. “I had a dream last night that she was up in the woods tied to a tree.” She was hoping Slinger would be found alive and freed.

Diana McNutt, who also lives in the community, doesn’t know Slinger. But, she said, “If it’d be my family (member), I’d surely want help searching for mine.”

Like Guerrero, she was hoping to find Slinger alive. Her concern? “I’m worried we may find her body.”

Stark County Sheriff’s deputies, with their K-9 unit, were also at the scene.

Sgt. Ryan Carver, of the Sheriff’s Office, said about 11:30 a.m. Thursday deputies searched a nearby wooded area Wednesday and Deputy Mike Greene and his K-9 partner, Mylo, had just finished another search. They remained on the scene to assist family and friends hoping to find the missing woman, and to offer advice.

It sounds from this article like the 8 year old was placed the the custody of her grandmother 2 days before the suicide.

A Ohio/Midwest Chapter of Texas EquuSearch Mounted Search and Recovery Team of about eight volunteers will join volunteers on a foot and ATV search. The family of Fred Paar, who was recently found dead in Kentucky, has been instrumental in helping to organize the search.

Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. in the gym of the Massillon YMCA, 131 Tremont Ave. SE. Volunteers must be 18 and have a valid identification and should dress for the weather.

The search will take all day and, if needed, the group will return.

No one has seen or heard from 27-year-old Christine Slinger of Massillon since August 20. She has an 8-year-old daughter and was last seen with her daughter’s father, Steven Stafford, who authorities say committed suicide shortly after Slinger went missing.

MASSILLON--It has been more than two months since Massillon mother, Christine Slinger, 27, went missing and search crews are still hoping to find any trace of her.

On Saturday, dozens gathered for an hours long search led by a national organization of helpers to try and find her.
More than thirty people rode ATV's and walked, combing areas in and around Massillon. The hope, like searches of the past, is to find anything that can lead to Slinger's whereabouts.

"We want to bring her home for her daughter, we owe that to her," said Dave Rader, with the Ohio chapter of Texas Equusearch.

"We were looking for seclusion of course, where you could hide a body, it was basically off I-77, of some of the exits," Rader said.

Authorities say the last place Christine Slinger was seen was at her Hilton Street NW home in Massillon. They said she was seen being picked up by her daughter's father.
"She was last seen with the father of their child and as we know he committed suicide two days after she went missing," Rader said.

Texas Equusearch, Ohio/Midwest Chapter
will be holding another search for Christine Slinger on Saturday, December 2, 2017. The command center will be located at the Wendy's restaurant; 4040 Greentree Blvd.; Canton, OH. 44076, at 8:00 am

All searchers must be at least 18 years old, and bring a valid id to search. We are in need of foot searchers at this time.
 
So sad for this little girl to grow up without either parent.

Why are people so selfish?
 
It’s been more than six months since a Massillon mother was last seen – and about three months since dozens went searching remote areas to find her.

Christine Slinger, 27, was last seen on August 20th. The next day, New Philadelphia police found Steven Stafford with the couple’s 8-year-old daughter. He was questioned and released, but later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he missed a meeting for a polygraph test.

“We’re holding out hope that she’s out there,” Jessica said. “But we also have to face the fact that it’s been that long and she might not be coming home the way we hoped for.”

That hope includes another future search.

Until the next search, the family is left holding onto the memories of Christine.

The family is also holding onto hope for closure in a case left with so many unanswered questions.
