A three-dimensional reconstruction of a man’s face, whose skeletal remains were found in the White River National Forest, was released Monday in hopes of determining the victim’s identity.

The remains of the man were discovered in July 2016 in the Tenmile Range, in a backcountry area between Copper Mountain Resort and Breckenridge known as the Sky Chutes, according to a Summit County coroner’s news release.
The image represents what the man looked like prior to his death. The actual hairstyle, and length of hair, may be different, but investigators do know that the man had blonde hair. He was likely between ages 30 and 50.

On July 10, 2016, hikers discovered a human skull. And a subsequent search, on Aug. 3, 2016, revealed human skeletal remains and personal items, including a handgun, outdoor gear and clothing.
Contact and work with the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System did not come up with any matches. A forensic pathologist’s analysis of the skull, in July 2016, found defects consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot.
The man likely died in 2012, two water bottles found among his personal items were bottled on Feb. 7, 2012.
Personal items found by search crews include:

The serial number on the Glock .45 was intentionally defaced, investigators said. All clothing sizes were men’s large, the boots were size 11.

It’s not a perfect match. The nose, ears and lips might not be exact, but it’s pretty close.

“It’s not going to be an exact portrait of him, but hopefully someone who knew him in life who was friend or family member might recognize him,” Buchholzt said.

Sheriff FitzSimons says identifying the man would finally close a case more than four years in the making.

“Hopefully they can look at this clay rendition and the clothing and try to put it all together and remember something,” said FitzSimons.

If you have any information that might help, you can contact the Summit County Coroner’s Office at 1-970-668-2964, or email the Summit County Sheriff’s Department at Robert.Pearce@SummitCountyCO.gov.

I found quite a few blondish men with wire glasses that look similar to the ones on the reconstruction:

David Schroeder: https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/17847/

Robert Bergner: https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/17801/

Gerald DeBerry: https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/18418/

Eric Grant: https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/22834/

However, I'm not sure that any of these are strong matches, except for their glasses and hair. Please feel free to submit if you think one of these men is a match.

Why was the man carrying advanced survival gear, including a high-tech headlamp and foot traction devices, if he intended to kill himself?

Why was he carrying three full magazines of ammunition for the Glock .45 he used?
“That is not common at all. I have not come across that in the 13 years I’ve been up here. ”Jaime FitzSimonsSummit County Sheriff

Perhaps most puzzling of all, why was the serial number on the gun defaced, rendering it impossible to identify?
"I have not had a case like this before where somebody was so well prepared and turned out to be a suicide victim," Coroner Regan Wood said.

The dead man was white with blond hair and likely between 30 and 50 years old, although he could have been as young as 23 or as old as 66. He was between 5-foot-5 and 6-foot-3. He was an experienced backcountry traveler, investigators say, and a smoker.
In September 2016, the coroner's office sent the man's remains to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification, which analyzed their biometric data but turned up no leads in national missing persons databases.

Investigators believe the man could have been through-hiking, although they never found any trace of a tent or other camping gear.

That leaves the possibility that he parked a car somewhere near Highway 91 and hiked up, but there's a snag in that explanation, too: There were no reports of abandoned cars or snowmobiles around the time the man made his fateful hike.

I wonder if he did not intend to commit suicide but got in a bad situation where he knew he couldn't hike out and wouldn't be rescued? He might have had the gun for protection against wild animals. But then he might have decided to use it to end his misery if he was starving or freezing to death. It's odd that he did not leave a note and did not have any ID on him, however.

Could this be another person lost while looking for the Forrest Fenn treasure?

Very interesting, never heard of it before now, but could easily imagine this UID searching for the treasure. imo
The competition must be fierce, speculation.

All About the Elusive $2 Million Treasure Hunt That May Have Claimed Another Life

A 31-year-old man is the latest treasure-seeker to disappear on the quest for Forrest Fenn’s gold.

Eric Ashby moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in April 2016 in hopes of finding Fenn’s elusive treasure chest hidden in the Rocky Mountains, his sister, Lisa Albritton, told ABC News.

“I believe that something sinister happened…” she told the outlet. “I am looking for justice for my brother.”

Ashby isn’t the only nature-lover who has gone missing looking for the treasure-chest that has been hidden for over six years and contains $2 million in gold and jewels.

Two men have died while searching for the treasure — Grand Junction pastor Paris Wallace was found in New Mexico’s Rio Grande River and Randy Bilyeu’s body was discovered near Sandoval County’s Cochiti Lake along the Rio Grande River.

The legendary box is rumored to be located somewhere in the Rocky Mountains – a cryptic poem in Fenn’s 2010 memoir The Thrill of the Chase hints at the treasure’s secret location.

Both Eric Ashby and Pastor Wallace have threads here, that's how I first heard about it-- from their threads (ETA: I see that Randall Bilyeu also had a thread). My opinion is that the treasure might not exist and Forrest Fenn made it up to make a ton of money selling his book about it.

could this be a missing 'wanted' criminal? (the defacing of the gun's serial number ...)
someone running from the law, hiding in the backcountry whose guilt finally caught up with them?
Was going to post the same. Seems very possible given the gun serial no.

Very intriguing, they have similar noses- and guessing that if the mp needed glasses, might not be inclined to be photographed wearing them, imo speculation.

He also might not have needed the glasses in 2004 when he would have been around 35 years old. By 2013 he was 44-45 and might have needed reading glasses. Another interesting thing is that 2013 was the year he was placed on the top ten most wanted list and the reward was doubled to $200,000:

Doh, and I just realized they think the UID died in 2012 from the 2012 water bottles, so disregard the part about 2013. I was thinking if he was alive when the reward was raised he might have felt the risk of getting caught was too great after that and decided to end it himself. I also realized the glock description is not exactly a match. I don't know much about handguns, but the one found on the UID was a .45 Glock and Brown had two guns-- a 9mm Glock and .45 handgun. I guess both guns could have been Glocks? IDK. Anyway, I don't feel strongly enough about Brown to submit him as a match but if anyone else does, please feel free. :seeya:

I sent the websleuths link for Harley Lammert to Todd Matthews last night. Harley Lammert went missing from Grand Junction, CO in 2012 and I can't find any indication that he was ever found. His face looks similar, even though his description doesn't seem to fit re: clothing. Harley is not in Namus, or any other missing person's database. http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...-29-Grand-Junction-10-May-2012&highlight=2012
