The sheriff’s department is asking the public to avoid the area of Country Roads 247 and 172 while they search, the Daily Journal reports

This seems to be the original article the others are sourcing from. Lots of additional info.

Trying to get a map but my tablet is not cooperating. Basically the area they're asking people to avoid is on the other side of a wooded area from where Susan was last seen. So they mean VERY near.

Wouldn't it be great if the dog could take the searchers back to where it found the skull?

Hopefully they can find the rest of the remains to help with that. Hate for a murderer to get away.

Lanier was last seen around the County Road 255 area east of Iuka. The skull was located in a homeowner's yard along County Road 247, about a mile away from Lanier's home. Officials said it appeared that the man’s dogs had discovered the skull and brought it back to his property near Highway 172.

"We searched all the woods between where she lived and where the dogs brought it," said Tishomingo County sheriff John Daugherty. "We haven't found anything else but we will continue looking and running down leads."

"They said the skull was in perfect condition. There was no sign of blunt force trauma or anything else to give us an idea of how she died," Daugherty said.

I think she must be close to home. I wonder if the skull showed signs of having been buried or if it was clean? If not buried, it might not be foul play. She might have gone for a walk near her home and had an accident, gotten lost in the woods, or had a medical event.

I always wondered why somebody doesn't do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody.

Identified - dental records have confirmed that it's Lanier's skull, but it sounds like they're still searching for the rest of the body:

In MS, I believe it's possible. It's very hot and humid there.

More bones have been discovered, but they're not sure if they are animal or human.
