PA PA - Ryan Kemp, 30, Schnecksville, 16 Sept 1981

Kemp, who was renting a home in Germansville, was last seen eating lunch on Sept. 15, 1981 at the King’s IGA supermarket on Route 873 in Schnecksville, state police said. His car was found two days later in the parking lot of the former Ale Haus tavern on Route 309 in Schnecksville.

Under a petition from his mother, Kemp was declared dead in 1989. State police have always suspected foul play in his disappearance.
According to Morning Call archives, he was president of his class at Slatington High School, graduating in 1969. He went to Penn State University for two years and later worked in process control for New Jersey Zinc Co. for several years until he was laid off in a cutback. When he disappeared, he was attending Lehigh County Community College part-time in preparation for a career in mechanical engineering, his mother told the Morning Call in 1989.

''SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - The PSP announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the discovery of Ryan Jan Kemp.

The police continue to investigate the September 1981 disappearance of the Slatington native.

Ryan Jan Kemp, was renting a home in Germansville, Heidelberg Township, Lehigh County. He was last seen at the King’s IGA Supermarket on Rt. 873, Schnecksville, on September 17, 1981.''

''Kemp was described as a 30-year-old, white male, approximately 5’9” to 5’10”, 135 to 140 lbs. He had full wavy brown hair, mustache, hazel eyes, and prescription glasses or contacts.
He had worked at the New Jersey Zinc Company in Palmerton, PA, for a short time.

Details of Disappearance​

Kemp was last seen having lunch at King's IGA Supermarket on Route 873 in Germansville, Pennsylvania on September 15, 1981. He has never been heard from again. Two days later, his truck was located in the parking lot of the Buffalo Inn on Route 309.

Kemp graduated from Slatington High School in 1969. He was a good student and played on the football and wrestling teams. He attended Pennsylvania State University for two years before dropping out, then worked at New Jersey Zinc Co. for a time until he was laid off.

At the time of his disappearance, he was a part-time student at Lehigh County Community College, working towards a career in mechanical engineering. He lived at a house he was renting in the Germansville section of Heidelberg Township.

Kemp was declared legally dead in 1989. Little information is available in his case, but foul play is suspected.
