Girls murdered west of Telluride, may have been dead for weeks

The bodies of two young girls believed to have been murdered weeks ago were found Friday morning on a San Miguel County farm, according to the sheriff's office.

San Miguel County Sheriff's deputies arrested four people, whose names have not been released, in connection with the homicide investigation occurring on the property outside Norwood.

Deputies are looking for a fifth suspect, Nashika Bramble. She was last seen Wednesday morning hitchhiking in the town of Norwood.

Ugh. It sounds like this was a really bad one.

The San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office said two young girls between the ages of 5 and 10 were found dead following a call to authorities at around noon Friday. It is believed that the two girls had been deceased for at least two weeks, according to Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Susan Lilly.

The four suspects are being held at the San Miguel County Jail and face charges that include second-degree murder, criminally negligent homicide and felony child abuse causing death, Lilly said.

“In my 37 years as sheriff I have never seen anything as cruel and heartless as this,” San Miguel County Sheriff Bill Masters said of the incident.
...
Authorities withheld the names of the four suspects in custody but said more information would be forthcoming when the booking process is complete.

The two Haitian suspects were believed to have been residing in the Norwood area for about two months, Lilly said. Another suspect in custody, a white male, is a Norwood resident. The fourth suspect who was arrested is not a long-term resident of the area, authorities said.

Near the scene of the investigation, County Coroner Emil Sante told a Daily Planet reporter that it had been a long day and that the investigation was moving slowly. He said his office probably wouldn’t be able to identify the two victims until Saturday.

The names and photos of the people in custody will be released this weekend. Charges in the case include second degree murder, criminally negligent homicide and felony child abuse causing death.

“In my 37 years as sheriff, I have never seen anything as cruel and heartless as this,” Sheriff Bill Masters said in a prepared statement.

Anyone who spots Nashika Bramble is asked to contact San Miguel County Sheriff’s investigators at 970-728-1911. The latest updates can be found on Twitter @SheriffAlert.

Waiting for more info to come out. Sherrif says he'll release more tomorrow.

Two of the four suspects -- a man and a woman -- are Haitian nationals. The other two suspects arrested Friday are U.S. residents, according to Susan Lilly, a spokesperson for the San Miguel County Sherriff's Office.

Investigators believe the girls, who appear to be approximately 5 to 10 years of age, were killed at least two weeks before the gruesome discovery by deputies Friday morning. Sheriff investigators were searching the property after receiving a tip about the deaths, Lilly told Denver7.
...
mages from the scene show crime tape stretched across a dirt road that leads to the remote farm. Investigators were seen outside the property walk past fence posts adorned with signs that read "BEWARE OF THE DOG," and "PRIVATE PROPERTY."

The four suspects are each facing several charges, including second-degree murder, criminally negligent homicide and felony child abuse causing death.

Bramble is wanted on charges of second-degree murder. Sherriff investigators are asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to call 970-728-1911.

Investigators with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are assisting the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office.

Suspect wanted in double homicide in Norwood in custody in Grand Junction. Nashika Bramble turned herself in.

Frederick A. Blair, 23, of Norwood; Madani Ceus, 37, of Haiti; Ika Eden, 53, of Jamaica; and Nathan Yah, 60, of Haiti, were arrested Friday on suspicion of felony child abuse resulting in death after law enforcement responded to reports of two dead children at a farm outside Norwood.

A fifth suspect, Nashika Bramble, turned herself into law enforcement in Grand Junction on Saturday afternoon.
...
Lilly said there was an effort by another law enforcement agency to seal the arrest affidavits in the case, which she declined to release.

“This is a very sensitive case and we’re trying to preserve the integrity of it for the (district attorney),” Lilly said.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is assisting the San Miguel Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.

San Miguel County Coroner Emil Sante told 9Wants to Know on Monday that autopsies have been conducted but that he was awaiting the results of toxicology tests before he could say how the girls died.

He also said it’s possible that he may never be able to figure out exactly when they died.

Susan Lilly, spokeswoman for the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that four of those who were arrested were taken into custody near the intersection of Road Y43 and Thunder Road, located a little more than a mile south of the town of Norwood.
...
County property records identify Frederick A. Blair as the owner of a 17.49-acre parcel of farm land on the northwest corner of Road Y43 and Thunder Road.
...
Bail was set at $150,000 for Bramble, but the other four were being held without bail. Court hearings for all five are scheduled Tuesday in Telluride.

Lilly said that while Blair had been in the area for some time the other four had lived at the farm for no more than 60 days.

Charges for each are outlined at link. CBI is involved, LE won't talk about the relationships between the girls and/or the suspects. Another agency is trying to get docs sealed. What the heck is going on?

The five have been charged with felony child abuse causing death. All participants in Tuesday’s hearing phoned in. District Attorney Dan Hotsenpiller and Deputy District Attorney Robert Whiting said that murder charges may be filed against Yah and Ceus. Both were described during the proceeding as central figures in the case.

“(That’s a) strong possibility based on what we know at this time,” Hotsenpiller said.
...
The next court appearances for Blair, Eden, Yah and Bramble were set for Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. Due to a scheduling conflict, Ceus will appear in court on Oct. 10 at 2 p.m.

Lowenbach set Eden and Bramble’s bonds at $125,000, while Yah and Ceus received bonds of $250,000 and $500,000, respectively. Hotsenpiller had requested a $500,000 bond for Yah and $750,000 for Ceus. Blair’s bond hearing was deferred until Oct. 3 at the request of his attorney.

A protective order was put in place for Eden, Yah, Ceus and Bramble, prohibiting any contact with two young children who were at the scene of the investigation. The children, who are related to one of the suspects, are currently in protective custody. The Daily Planet does not identify juveniles.

Hotsenpiller said the group of four foreigners has been traveling around the country for at least three years. He said law-enforcement officials are having trouble validating the identities of Yah and Ceus by their fingerprints since no other known record for them can be found.

Affidavits containing details about case have been sealed. County coroner said autopsies were complete but he's not sure of the girls' identities or relationship to suspects. Waiting on DNA results.

Curiously, the article mentioned that a lot of government workers aren't at work in Florida because of the hurricane. That leads me to think there's a link to Florida.

“There’s a lot of evidence. It’s a complicated case. We have two dead children, and so we need to devote a lot of resources,” said Susan Lilly, who is with the San Miguel Sheriff’s Office. “Agencies are working together very, very well. We’re having daily briefings at this point.”

One of these scum will likely turn on the others in exchange for a plea to lesser charges. What happened here? Why would so many adults abuse these two little ones?

So I did a little sleuthing last night and it looks like Bramble may have Florida ties going back quite a while. Georgia too. I found voter records with her birthdate and even a possible birth of a daughter. I also found a possible link to Ceus. That one's slim and could be coincidence.

I won't link anything yet since I've learned how easy it is to be mistaken. I'll wait for more info to come out before I make that leap. In the meantime here's info with the suspects' birth dates in case y'all wanna look too:

This is likely the original report, Page 6, taken on September 8 at 11:32 regarding an unattended death - the date and address fit. I'm pretty sure it's related somehow. http://www.sanmiguelcounty.org/DocumentCenter/View/1303

More info coming out slowly, like a runny nose:

Two young girls found dead Sept. 8 on a Norwood-area farm died from the alleged actions of five people, including members of a reportedly loose-knit traveling group, according to statements made in court Tuesday.

Two other children found with the defendants were taken into custody by the Department of Human Services, District Attorney Dan Hotsenpiller said.
...
“We believe the facts in this may well demonstrate first-degree murder, because of the position of trust and ages of the children,” Hotsenpiller said in reference to Yah, in asking for his bail to be set at $500,000.

The final charging decision has not been made, Hotsenpiller said. He indicated he anticipates a single complaint encompassing all defendants.

For Yah, a first-degree murder charge is a “strong possibility,” based on the available facts, Hotsenpiller said.

The facts further point to Ceus having played a “central role” in the case, the district attorney said later, asking her bond to be set at $750,000.

“Essentially, this is a class-1 felony. We anticipate in this case a class-1 felony charge, which means she might not even be entitled to bond,” Hotsenpiller said.

Ceus and Yah have no ties to the area, nowhere to live if released...
...
Bramble’s bond was left at the $125,000 set at the time of her arrest. Her appointed counsel, Harvey Palefsky, indicated he would file a motion to halt testing of evidence until a defense investigator could view it in its unadulterated state.
...
The other defense attorneys also indicated they lacked information necessary to make an appropriate bond argument; arrests affidavits were ordered unsealed for the defense only, at this point.

At least 4 have been traveling together for years. Not able to confirm Yah's name, no fingerprints exist for him. The surviving children are 4 and 8 and appear to be connected to Ceus. would be allowed contact with the two named children only as ordered by a different court in a dependency and neglect case.

The San Miguel County court’s docket shows a juvenile petition related to “temporary custody,” and listed Ceus and Yah as parties. https://www.courts.state.co.us/Courts/County/Dockets.cfm?County_ID=20

Next court dates are Oct. 3 and 10.

Status Hearing held Oct.3. All affidavits sealed for now. Autopsies are complete but COD will not be released. Still waiting on DNA test results.

Each is charged with one count of felony child abuse causing death, with possible murder charges to come in the future.

Deputy District Attorney Robert Whiting said murder charges for all five suspects are a “very real” outcome. He added that the 7th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is still sifting through “hundreds of documents” and “hours of interviews” before officially filing such charges.

Nashika Bramble is the dead girls' mother. Her attorney argued for a bond reduction, saying “She’s a grieving mother sitting in jail.” The father of one of the girls, along with their grandparents stated no leniency should be afforded to Bramble. Bramble "wept openly and sniffled into tissues." I'm not sure why her origin is "unknown" if LE has been in contact with relatives.

Frederick A. Blair, 23, of Norwood; Ika Eden, 53, of Jamaica; Nashika Bramble, 36, origin unknown; and Nathanyah Nitchitu, 50, of Haiti [formerly called Nathan Yah in msm], all went before District Court Judge Keri Yoder. Tuesday’s hearing was the first time any suspects appeared in person for court proceedings.

A fifth suspect, Madani Ceus, 37, of Haiti, will appear in court Oct. 10. Her bond was set at $500,000 on Sept. 12.

More info regarding bond amounts at the link.

Blair is the owner of the property. He has no criminal history but DA Whiting said Blair “incorporated” himself into the group of transients and he allowed the group to stay there, even after the children were dead.

I'm curious about the "transient group" authorities refer to but I guess for now there won't be much info coming out. LE said there's no danger to the community.

I wonder who called authorities? Maybe the father of one of the girls that was mentioned along with grandparents that was mentioned in the news article? I too, wonder, "what on earth went on here" and how was the landowner "incorporated" into horrible case?

Per your link... it's now updated with "jury trial" as well as two dates "11/16 AND 11/17" *this info is for Ceus only (haven't searched the others yet)

*I'm not sure I wanna' know the details in this case :(
