In hopes they can identify him, Midvale police released a photograph Wednesday of a man who was found beaten and left for dead last week. The man was found about 6 a.m. Friday near 7300 South and 900 East. He had no identification on his person when he was found and is in a coma."His prognosis isn't very good," said Midvale assistant police Chief Tony Mason, adding that doctors were surprised that the man made it through the first night. Police had no leads as of Wednesday.

Midvale beating victim succumbs to his injuries
A man who was found unconscious and badly beaten in a Midvale parking lot last week succumbed to his injuries on Thursday. Midvale police now are conducting a homicide investigation, which has been hampered so far by their inability to identify the victim. Since releasing his picture to the news media on Wednesday, however, police have received a half-dozen calls they are following up, said Sgt. John Salazar. Police hope to gain further clues from an autopsy to be performed by the state medical examiner, Salazar said. The man, who remained in a coma until his death....

Midvale police have identified the beating victim who died after being in a coma for seven days as George Benally of Ogden.
Benally was found about 6 a.m. on Jan. 6 - the day after his 43rd birthday - in a parking lot in the rear of a furnishings store near 900 East and 7200 South in Midvale.

George Benally, 43, was found beaten and unconscious near 7200 South and 900 East. He remained in a coma for nearly a week before dying on Jan. 12.

Rondal Eddie, 19, was charged with aggravated murder. Eddie later plead guilty to murder and was sentenced to five years to life at the Utah State Prison.

Eddie was the son of one of Benally's friends. Robbery was believed to be motive in the slaying, according to investigators.
