[h=1]Police: Man found dead in Montgomery County may be from Annapolis[/h]
Montgomery County police said officers found a body in Wheaton Regional Park in the county on Sept. 5.

With “trauma to the body,” the department said the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the case a homicide.

Police have not been able to identify the man — an approximately 5-foot, 2-inch Hispanic man with short, dark brown hair — but said in a release “he is possible from Annapolis based on evidence collected
Montgomery police said the man is believed to have been killed sometime between December and March.

The department said he was found wearing a large, gray sweatshirt with the words “First United Methodist Church Laurel” written on the front. The man was also wearing black, Adam Levine-branded sweatpants with black athletic shorts underneath with the number “19” on the left leg.

Police also said the man was missing a bottom tooth near the front of his mouth.

I wonder if it would be useful to send this information to the church on his shirt, see if they have any members that might fit?

EDIT: There may be more than one church that this shirt could be from.

I imagine police would have contacted them already to ask. He could also be someone who got help from the church. From their website they have:

Residential facilities for the chemically dependent in 3 locations called "Hope House"

A program called LARS provides emergency food, shelter, eviction prevention, utility assistance, prescriptions, transportation, and clothing for people in crisis

And several other community outreach ministries

You're probably right. That was what jumped out to me at first. I just went through the missing here on WS for the past year, missing from Maryland, but didn't see any that could possibly match. Could have missed something though.

I'm really curious what they have that points to him possibly being from Annapolis.

He was killed by members of a gang, State’s Attorney John McCarthy said Wednesday. Sometime likely between last December and March, he was dismembered and decapitated and left in the Wheaton park.

On Friday, police released photos of his clothes and personal belongings that were found on his body in the hope that it would help someone recognize him.

The items include a large, gray sweatshirt—now brown and tattered—with a “First United Methodist Church Laurel” logo on its chest. There are also large, blue athletic shorts with the number “19.” Police included an image of the shorts as they were found, discolored by dirt, and a representation of how they originally looked.
The man had a rosary on him, with several beads missing. Police believe he may have been from the Annapolis area.
His body was found the night of Sept. 5 in the park at 11715 Orebaugh Ave. Police have not specified where in the park the body was, but police tape surrounded a culvert near the park’s miniature train station that week.

Due to some UIDs being identified around the area last year, most of them from Annapolis and gang related, they do suspect this John Doe could be related too.

Link below is not about this case but just posting it due to probably similar circumstances:

Oct 26 2017
Human skeletal remains were located at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis on August 28, 2017 after police received a tip. Anne Arundel County police say DNA testing has identified the victim as 22-year-old Jose Hernandez-Portillo from the Annapolis area. He was reported missing on March 11, 2016. Police believe he may have been killed by gang members.

Hernandez-Portillo’s remains showed evidence of trauma and homicide detectives believe he was murdered around the time of his disappearance. Detectives said they are also confident that this was a targeted crime and not a random act of violence, police say.

This is the second suspected gang-related death of a young person from Annapolis that we have learned about in the past two months. 21-year-old Jenni Rivera Lopez, was found buried in a wooded area in Crownsville back in September 2017. She was a former Annapolis High School student. Four men and one woman ranging in ages from 18 to 25 were charged in her brutal beating death.

Now, the family of a current student, 16-year-old David Rivera, said he has been missing since August 29, 2017. With all of the news about gang activity in the county, Rivera's mother is fearing for his life.

I wonder if David Rivera was ruled out.

Now this is related (and absolutely horrible). All arrested in this case of John Doe are MS-13 gang members:

December 4, 2017

Two more people have been arrested in the death of a man who was brutally killed in a Montgomery County park.

The Montgomery County police said Friday that Doris Esmeralda Giron-Jimenez, 24, of Wheaton, Maryland, and Albaro Armando Rosa-Moreno, 22 of an unconfirmed address, have been charged with first-degree murder of a man whose body was found Sept. 5 in Wheaton Regional Park.

Miguel Lopez-Abrego, 19, of an unconfirmed address, was arrested Nov. 11 in the same killing.

The victim still has not been identified. The police said earlier this month that he had been stabbed more than 100 times and decapitated, and his heart had been cut out.

Just one day after this John Doe was found, another body was found nearby in a stream near Long Branch-Arliss Neighborhood Park. Police later identified the body as Cristopher Alfredo Funes Guerra, 20, from Silver Spring. He was also killed by gang.

Montgomery County police are investigating both incidents as homicides.

McCarthy said he could not comment which gang was responsible or whether the two cases were related.
The gang killings come in a recent spate of gang-related violence. McCarthy said there have been 20 gang-related homicides in the county in the past two years as groups such as MS-13, Hit Squad and Latin Kings come to prominence in the area
