"A spokesman says the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office is in the early stages of identifying the skull and portions of arms and legs found by a man pruning trees Wednesday.

Cleveland.com reports the bones were found next to a home where 50-year-old Daniel Sloane was killed and his body dismembered July 1. Some of Sloane’s body parts were found in a trash container in Lorain. His head, arms and legs were missing."

Maybe they thought the remains were Daniel Sloane's head and arms? According to this news conference, it was this unknown 4 year old and not Daniel Sloane.

Landscapers discovered the remains at a house on Longmead Avenue near West 130th Street in Cleveland on Sept. 20. The child is approximately 4 years old with dark, wavy hair. His death is extremely suspicious. The child was likely dead for a few months before being discovered. The skeletal remains were covered up in bags in the backyard. The house was not occupied at the time.

Investigators did not find a child matching this description in any database.

Ohio's missing person situation is difficult. There are discrepancies in the missing reports from various cities to the state level and also to namus and the NCMEC. It's possible that this child was reported missing but wasn't in the databases from Ohio that they checked, so it might be worth going through the other databases from the state to double check.

Found 2 1/2 months ago and still not identified? :(

Yes. I'm sure they had to wait for the anthropological/autopsy report and take the time to try to track down the obvious possibilities.

A bag of bones hidden in shrubs in the backyard of a vacant home in the city's Longmead-Puritas neighborhood belong to a young boy who has not been reported missing. It appeared the boy had been dead for several months and likely died sometime in the late spring or early summer.

A man pruning trees that day at a home there found the boy's skull, arms and legs in bags. He cut the bags open with the shears and discovered a complete skeleton. The house sat vacant for several months after a fire and was being renovated at the time he discovered the bones.

The boy is described as having long wavy dark hair and brown eyes. Investigators have been unable to determine the child's race. Analyzing skeletal remains of children is more difficult to analyze than adult remains, an investigator said, and that he appears to be at the average heights and weight of a 4-year-old and had no prior health issues.

Investigators entered the boy's DNA into the national missing person's database, but no match was found. Investigators are asking for DNA of anyone who may think a relative is missing. The investigation can't proceed unless the boy is identified.

Cleveland police initially investigated the possibility that the remains belonged to Daniel Slone, a 50-year-old man who was killed July 1 next door to the vacant home. Hector Diaz, 30, dismembered Slone's body before hiding two pieces of Slone's torso in a dumpster in Lorain. Diaz fatally shot himself as a SWAT team surrounded him in Lorain. Investigators have not yet found Slone's head, arms or legs. Williams said the boy's death is not connected to Slone's death. Ok, so a few obvious points to look at: who was living at that house prior to the fire. Also, I know they say this murder isn't related to Daniel's, but might it be related to the guy who killed Daniel? It seems beyond mere coincidence to have two people murdered AND dismembered in such a small geographical location and time frame.

And yet another child is found murdered. ..

Remains identified as 4 year old male child. Believed to have deceased spring or early summer, 2017

Thanks for alerting us at Galveston, TX about this little boy, Owutatangledweb.

The age they have given for this little guy is very specific, I wonder how they have managed to make it so precise. I'm just used to seeing it as between the ages of 3 and 5 or something along those lines.

Off to do a bit more reading.:findinglink:

ETA: I found this...

But he could be a tall 3 year old or a small 5 year old for instance.

Gilson said they have not yet determined how the child died, but called the death "extremely suspicious."

"This is a 4-year-old child who is probably active and healthy," Gilson said. "I expect someone is missing this child. If there's someone you haven't seen in a while or you just wandered whatever became of such a person, please reach out to us."
