State and local police are investigating the apparent slaying of a 17-year-old girl, whose body was found in a house in the North End early Saturday.

Fall River police spokesman Lt. Jeffrey Cardoza said a "family member" found the victim about 7:30 a.m. inside the residence at 3817 N. Main St.

He said that person contacted police.

"It appears to be a homicide," Cardoza said, adding, "We don’t believe this to be a random act."

New details have been released about this murder. The sequence of events and the evidence.

Christopher Banville, 32 was captured hours later, in Maryland, and is currently fighting extradition to Massachusetts.

He has been charged with first degree murder of his niece, Krista L. Lucianno in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 14, 2006.

He had apparently been agitated earlier in the evening, twice, because Krista had been talking to a 20 yr old man on the phone.

Blunt neck trauma with cervical fractures, and ligature strangulation, was the cause of death.

This is a really wierd one. Why would the uncle get THAT upset about her talking to a man on the phone? Why was it his place to talk to her about it if the parents weren't upset?

From the article she was at her grandparents (her uncle's parents). He twice went to his mother (her grandmother) and complained. His mother said he was "agitated". Her parents were not at the house at the time.

I guess he took it upon himself to "teach her a lesson". Perhaps his interference created a fight? Perhaps he was jealous? Perhaps he knew the guy and that created the agitation? Perhaps he caught her sneaking out to meet the guy, and that caused the fight that lead to her death?

Perhaps it had nothing to do with what later happened.

Oh, sorry. So the grandparents were not upset, but the uncle was.

It sounds like the phone calls caused the slaying. I hope he talks.

Krista had a MySpace site. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post that link here? Anyway, most of her friends are writing her to say they miss her. :(

That is so sad. Why should it have bothered him for her to be on the phone. The guy she was talking to was only 20 yrs....she was 17 yrs. Maybe he thought the guy was to old for her....not that it was any of his business.

I wonder if this uncle who is 32 yrs lives at home with his parents? Maybe he isn't dealing with a full deck. It just sounds strange to me that he would go this far over her talking on the phone. Who knows, maybe it irked him that she was at her grandparents and talking for long periods of time on their phone. Maybe he wanted to use the phone.

She was his niece for pity sake. I hope this doesn't destroy the family....pitting them against each other. Puts the grandparents in a really tough place to be aside from losing their grandaughter and their son going to prison.

Concerned -- my own brother is deceased, and we all were certain he'd never harm a family member -- but towards the end of his life, I found myself nervous at the prospect of being alone with him. This story struck home with me for that reason, as well.

Steve

That's what I was wondering Lisa. Jealousy may be the root of this crime.

Taunton — After just three hours of deliberations, a Taunton Superior Court jury found Christopher Banville guilty of murdering his 17-year-old niece in 2006.

As Banville stood, showing no emotion as the jury announced the verdict shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, his family members gasped and began crying seconds after the jury foreman read the group’s decision to the court.

Along with being found guilty of first-degree murder, the jury determined Banville is also responsible for stealing his mother’s Toyota Highlander in the moments after Banville strangled Krista Lucianno in his parent’s Fall River home.

Banville was immediately sentenced to life in a state prison without parole on the murder charge and received another 5 to 7 year jail term on the larceny charge.
