2017.09.29 - U.S. pulling embassy staff out of Cuba in wake of mystery attacks

U.S. Pulling Embassy Staff From Cuba in Wake of Mystery ‘Attacks’
    by Tracy Connor

The United States is pulling more than half its diplomatic personnel out of Cuba and warning Americans not to visit in response to mysterious sonic incidents that sickened 21 embassy staffers and their families, senior U.S. officials said on Friday.

In addition to ordering all non-essential personnel and their families to leave, the U.S. will also suspend the processing visas in Cuba, the officials said.

The U.S. is maintaining diplomatic relations with Havana, and the staff reduction is meant to ensure the safety of Americans, the officials added.

Cuba has repeatedly denied any involvement in the baffling incidents, and the U.S. has still not determined who is behind them...

This is so mysterious! Of course I suspect the russkies, but there are probably non-state cybercriminals at work here. Cuba has had good relations with Canada, so it seems like the culprits wouldn't be Cuban government peeps messing with Canadians. Could be rogue Cubans, but I don't know how savvy they could be unless schooled in cyberhacking assault- elsewhere. Could be Americans on behalf of Russia, too. Sadly, there seem to be a lot of those types out there..... Wonder if it has anything to do with Kaspersky software????

The United States is pulling more than half its diplomatic personnel out of Cuba and warning Americans not to visit in response to mysterious sonic incidents that sickened 21 embassy staffers and their families.

"Some very bad things happened in Cuba," President Donald Trump said after the announcement by the State Department on Friday. "They did some bad things."

In addition to ordering all nonessential personnel and their families to leave, the U.S. will also suspend the processing of visas in Cuba, senior officials said.

"I was ordered to leave Cuba by Monday with whatever could be carried in a suitcase," one embassy employee, who asked not to be identified, told NBC News...
