Elizabeth, Illinois woman arrested in death of infant

An arrest was made on Wednesday, September 20, in a case that was originally deemed not suspicious.

According to the Rockford Register Star, in May of this year, 6-month-old Tripp Luebke was put down to sleep and was later discovered by his mother, not breathing.


Elizabeth M. Roen, 27, of Elizabeth, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder.

6-month-old Tripp Luebke was found not breathing at a home in the 500 block of S. Madison Street in Elizabeth back on May 11. The infant was airlifted to a Rockford hospital where it died days later.

Several different agencies, including the FBI, have been investigating the baby's death for the past four months, leading to the arrest of Roen.

Elizabeth woman charged with murder in death of infant

Elizabeth M. Roen is a registered sex offender who previously was convicted of child abuse in Grant County, Wis. The Illinois Sex Offender Registry lists her address as 526 S. Madison St., No. 5.

Elizabeth police previously reported that authorities responded to 526 S. Madison St. on May 15 after receiving a 911 call that a child who was “approximately 6 months old” and lived at that address was not breathing.

The child was taken by ambulance to Midwest Medical Center in Galena and later airlifted to Rockford Memorial Hospital, where he died at about 5:45 p.m. May 15, according to a press release issued at that time.


In 2009, Roen was convicted by a Grant County jury of two counts of child abuse. The Grant County Sheriff’s Department reported at the time that Roen’s daughter suffered severe burns to her feet and other minor injuries, but she was not taken to the hospital until the following day.

The child was left alone in a bathtub with scalding water for a few minutes while Roen changed her daughter’s bed sheets, according to a criminal complaint. The toddler also had a black eye and a cut below her eye.

In that case, Roen was sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years of probation.

In 2010, Roen was convicted of a sex crime in Grant County, prompting her listing on the state sex offender registry.

This "mother" was previously charged with incest. Her brother was apparently the father of her daughter whom she abused several years ago.

A brother and sister from Blue River, Wisconsin face incest charges after police say they had sex with each other.

Police say Elizabeth Marie Roen, 20, and David H. Bisbach, 25, are biological brother and sister and had sex with each other between July 4, 2009 and December 15, 2009.

This is disgusting!!! They had a child together and then mom abused her! Poor thing! It stated in the article above that they could get 12 yrs in prison and a $25,000 fine. Her first court appearance was suppose to be in 2010; gotta assume she didn't get 12 years! She was able to get pregnant last year by who knows who and murdered that baby. I wonder what his COD was and why it took investigators so long to determine it was murder? Poor little guy, he was adorable! Hopefully this time around she gets a VERY LONG sentence. Again, this is just disgusting! Absolutely disgusting! smh

UPDATE: JO DAVIESS COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) - The Jo Daviess County mother who murdered a 6-month-old boy will now spend 16 years in prison for the crime.

Elizabeth police say 27-year-old Elizabeth Roen covered Tripp Luebke's nose and mouth causing him to suffocate last May.

Elizabeth M. Roen, 27, covered the mouth and nose of her son, 6-month-old Tripp Luebke, resulting in his death. Roen pleaded guilty to aggravated battery, a Class X felony, and was sentenced by Judge William Kelly to 16 1/2 years in prison, followed by three years of mandatory supervised release, according to a press release from Jo Daviess County State’s Attorney John Hay.

The Jo Daviess County State's Attorney says on February 1, 2018, Elizabeth M. Roen pleaded guilty as part of a plea agreement to a charge of aggravated battery. She was then sentenced to serve 16.5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

A judge Thursday sentenced 27-year-old Elizabeth Roen to 16.5 years in prison and ordered her to serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. Roen will receive credit for 135 days she has already served in jail. The judge also sentenced her to 3 years of supervised release following her prison sentence.

I hope she will be too old to have any children when she gets out. She has a history of hurting and killing her kids.
