Corey Brooks was last seen alive in 1998. Steven Carrington, who shared a house with Brooks and other family members outside the Orchard community, confessed last month to murdering Brooks at their home and throwing him into the nearby Brazos River. Brooks body was never recovered.

Nonetheless, some eight years after the murder, members of the non-profit search-and-rescue organization Texas EquuSearch havent given up the search for Brooks body.
According to an affidavit, Carrington told investigators he shot Brooks, who was 21 at the time, and wrapped him in blankets. Then, with the help of a man identified as Janus Parker, Carrington put Brooks body into the trunk of a car. The two men drove to a bridge on F.M. 1489 over the flooded Brazos River and threw Brooks body into the torrent below.
At one point, some law enforcement officials had theorized that, because the Brazos was at flood stage that night, Brooks body could have been swept miles downstream and would never be recovered.
In a recent interview, however, EquuSearch Search Director Joe Huston said he now has reason to believe the body still could be relatively near the F.M. 1489 bridge.
If that proves to be true, Huston reasons, the box with Brooks remains still could be fairly close to the bridge.

It was Carringtons second such confession in two weeks; on Dec. 16 he admitted to the 1998 killing of Corey Brooks.
