At least 1,500 structures lost in Northern California firestorm, among worst in state's history

At least 1,500 homes, businesses and other structures have been destroyed as more than 14 fires ravaged eight counties throughout Northern California late Sunday and Monday

morning, authorities said. The vast devastation over just a few hours made this firestorm one of the worst in California history, with Gov. Jerry Brown declaring a state of emergency.

(. . .) The Santa Rosa fire began around 10 p.m.

“It was an inferno like you’ve never seen before,” Marian Williams, who escaped in a caravan with neighbors through flames before dawn near the town of Kenwood, told the Associated

Press. “Trees were on fire like torches,” she said.

It's awful. I live in San Francisco. When I left my house this morning, I had ash on my shirt, and the air was thick with smoke. I can't imagine what it's like up north. [emoji173]️

This is awful!

SANTA ROSA, Calif. — Fast-moving wildfires raged across Northern California on Monday, killing at least 10 people, forcing the evacuation of up to 20,000 and destroying well over 1,000 buildings in one of the most destructive fire emergencies in the state’s history.

Firefighters were battling blazes in eight counties, officials said.

In Santa Rosa, the fire gutted a Hilton hotel and flattened the Journey’s End retirement community, a trailer park not far from the freeway that crosses the city...

Horrible situation! I hope we don't hear of anymore loss of life from the fires.

Anyone near Tujunga?
I KNOW it isn't real close to any of the fires but I have family I can't get a hold of.....
They do have respiratory issues so I wondered if it's bad enough they'd need to leave.
Then I think where on earth would they even go?

Not sure if this is too helpful. But this air quality website, gov affiliated, is mostly showing good or moderate air quality. Probably it's important that they stay inside for now, if possible. No prolonged outdoors, heavy activity.

Hope you hear from them soon!

I'm near Tujunga.
The fires are not close to here at all.

We were having staff development day for work today when a co-worker received a call that her nephew's home burned to the ground in Santa Rosa.
He and his wife are expecting a baby shortly.

Thanks guys. I'll assume there's another reason for the radio silence.

If you ever need me to go see if your people are all right in Tujunga Ms.F,
say the word.

The massive devastation everywhere is just so extreme right now.
It's awful and I worry our resources will be exhausted dealing with it all at once.
I'm also wondering how so many fires started so quickly. I fear this was arson.

If you ever need me to go see if your people are all right in Tujunga Ms.F,
say the word.

Thank you. :)
What's kind of funny is that THESE same people actually went and checked on a Websleuther for me once.
I'm sure it's totally unrelated to the fires. I've just never had them go radio silent for this long.
Probably just got tired of me and needed a break, wouldn't be the first!

OMG!!!!! I can't believe this destruction!!!! Prayers are with these poor people who had to flee and will come back to this!!!

OMG! this awful, it looks like a bomb was dropped, :(
