Gord Downie, the legendary front man of the Canadian rock band the Tragically Hip, has died at the age of 53.
In a statement posted online, the band confirmed that Downie died “with his beloved children and family close by” on Tuesday night.
The beloved Canadian musician was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a terminal form of brain cancer, in December 2015. He leaves behind four children.

A legend is gone. Many memories of carefree summers listening to the Hip.

This was expected, but I was still heartbroken when I heard the news.

My all time fav song from Tragically Hip, I think this might have been the last time he performed on the farewell tour. So sad, RIP Gord...

Such a sad day. Every, and I mean every radio station is playing non-stop Tragically Hip music. Justin's tribute just made me bawl.......and one radio station keeps following it up with Gord singing "Hallelujah".....
Will miss him so much. I mean who else would write a song about a man that was wrongfully convicted? If you have never heard Wheat Kings, give it a listen.
Canada is poorer because of your loss Gord. Please RIP.

RIP Gord. You will be missed. Very sad day.

I missed the Hip's concert in Boston in 2015. I followed the Tragically Hip's music for years.

Gord Downie shared his gift with us during his Final Concert, reminding us to use our own "gifts".

His music will always inspire me to do more.

From the Library Archive (Canada):

“For a good life we just might have to weaken
And find somewhere to go
Go somewhere we’re needed”

RIP Gord Downie, 1964 - 2017

CTV will re-air final tour tomorrow night. I believe at 8 p.m. EST. I will PVR it even though I saw it prior. We are at Steely Dan Concert tomorrow night.
