AL - Scottsboro, Partial remains in Tennessee River, Jan'06

    http://www.waff.com/Global/story.asp?S=4393279&nav=0hBE

Hunters found a boot, with a sock hanging out, and decomposed remains inside. Authorities are hoping that a family member will recognise the boot and call them.

The Boot is a Gortex rocky hunting boot. The size is anywhere from 9 1/2 to 10 1/2.

The decayed foot was found inside a black and white sock. The brand name "Real Tree" is stamped on the side of it.

If you have any information about this case, you're asked to call the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. That number is 256-574-2610.

"We don't have anybody (reported) missing in the county," he said. "But there is a particular person we've been looking for for some time who we've got warrants on. It had been brought to my attention that this person may have been killed."

Phillips said he and other investigators will also see whether there may a connection to a human jawbone that was found more than a year ago about two miles downriver.

He said passersby found the jawbone in the water close to the shoreline.

    boots

    Gortex rocky hunting boot
(Not the exact same model in the pic so I suspect the model design changed slightly in years gone by)
I think they need to ask the company to show them models of the boot from different past years so they
can narrow down the years that model was made and sold.

From the search results Real Tree makes lots of camo stuff evidently.

It appears to be clothing a hunter would wear. Or someone that is hiding out in the bush.

    It is a hunting area....

Remains found in hunting boot may solve missing person case

Human remains found inside a hunting boot may solve a missing person case in Tennessee.

WAFF 48 News first reported the find Saturday night.

Since our story aired, investigators have received at least one tip. They hope it will help them get closer to finding out who the human remains belong to.

Saturday afternoon, duck hunters found a boot, sock, and a decayed foot on an island just one mile north of the B.B. Comer Bridge in Scottsboro.

"He walked over and pulled the sock up and it had human remains of a foot inside the sock," says chief investigator Chuck Phillips.

Sunday morning, Jackson County investigators resumed their search on the Tennessee River, but found nothing.

After our story aired on WAFF 48 News at 10:00 Saturday, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation called the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

TBI says the remains could belong to a man who fell from his boat in January of 2004

Boot Might Have Connection to Missing Marion Co. Man
    WDEF News
    Jan 23, 2006 12:32 AM EST

New information today about a boot found in the Tennessee River over the weekend.
Jackson County chief investigator Chuck Phillips said two duck hunters found the boot with the remains of a human foot inside on Saturday.
A Marion county family has since contacted authorities to say the boot may have belonged to Jerry Killian.
The then 50-year-old man was swept from his boat by spill water from the Dam while fishing in Nickajack Lake with his son January first, 2004.
Crews rescued the son but never recovered Killian's body.
Marion and Jackson County investigators hope DNA will determine if there is a connection

    Thanks for that info BabyDust.

I did a quick search and didn't see Mr. Killian listed... but in this case it makes sense (to me). He "went missing" because rescuers couldn't find him. They knew he was in the water.... somewhere, so they rightly concluded he had passed away.

How sad for the son who was with him that day! Almost exactly one year later his remains come to light!

    My sympathies to the family.

The link to the Jerry Killian connection is dead but here are two that work:
