This is the Babcock murder trial discussion thread.

A few general reminders about the trial:

Any testimony that might remain under Publication Ban, and/or any courtroom discussion that takes place when the jury is not present, is strictly off-limits.

Only testimony that is published through MSM reporting (newspaper articles, tweets, tv) is allowed. Provide a source link, and keep discussion focused on testimony as it becomes public knowledge.

The magnificent principle of “innocent until proven guilty” is for the court room … it is not required that the general public / Websleuths members adhere to that principle. Members are allowed to discuss, speculate, theorize, and judge according to opinions they develop from following the specifics of the case.

A few general reminders from Websleuths TOS aka The Rules.

At all times, remain VICTIM FRIENDLY. No bashing or passing judgment on the victim or family.

There is ZERO TOLERANCE for snarky or disrespectful posts. Don’t expect an explanation … you will find your post has simply disappeared, or that you can no longer post.

There is to be NO name calling or name variations, not even of the accused.

BICKERING between members is not allowed. If you disagree, that's fine, say so and move past the post. If a post is offensive, alert it and let the Mods review it. If you respond to the post, both the offensive post AND yours will be removed and may result in other consequences.

Alert on a post and move on without discussing it, and don't question the decisions of our Mods/Admin or Owner. Also do not expect personalized responses with explanations about a particular decision.

Do not abuse the WS Alert feature. Abuse includes, but is not limited to:
• Overuse of the alert system
• Repeatedly alerting on the same poster
• Demanding a specific outcome
• Alerting on the same post more than once

If you have any questions, use the Alert feature or send a PM and we will be happy to assist.

'I didn't want her to sleep on the street': Good Samaritan gave Laura Babcock a place to stay, trial hears
By Shannon Martin, CBC News Oct 31, 2017

jessica-trevors.jpg

Pastry chef Jessica Trevors, 29, reached over and patted Laura Babcock's parents on the shoulders, after she finished her testimony at their daughter's murder trial. (Chris Dunseith/CBC )

It was midnight in late June 2012 when Jessica Trevors was smoking a cigarette on her front porch in the east end of Toronto.

She saw a cab pull up and a young woman with a pile of luggage and tiny white dog got out. The pair settled on a park bench.

Trevors, a 29-year-old pastry chef, said she watched the girl from her porch for about 15 minutes, before deciding to cross the street and introduce herself. The young woman, who turned out to be Laura Babcock, said she had nowhere to go.

"I didn't want her to sleep on the street," Trevors testified today at the Ontario Supreme Court trial into Babcock's murder.

Laura Babcock's escort friends testify in Day 8 of murder trial
CBC News Posted: Nov 01, 2017

More testimony from people who knew Laura Babcock through the escort industry is expected on Wednesday as the trial into her murder continues in a Toronto courtroom.

Several witnesses have told the Ontario Supreme Court that Babcock, who was 23 when she vanished, worked for a time as an escort.

Babcock's family and friends suddenly stopped hearing from her in July 2012. Her body has never been found.

I am back at the Laura #Babcock murder trial. Waiting for the jury. Full story 6pm @CHCHNews

Jury is here. Lots of kids in court, for take your kid to work day, I imagine. Judge tells jury we have a witness problem today.

Justice Michael Code tells the jury "we've had witnesses challenges this morning."

The trial is progressing faster than expected, and so the witness schedule is changing. He says today's witness list may be shorter than expected.

"We're still very much ahead of schedule," Code says.

"We have to do some ad-libbing to fill the time," Justice Code says they are juggling and only two witnesses here. "It might get choppy."

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now17 seconds ago
Richard Markovich is next witness. I'm not sure I got the correct spelling. #Babcock

There was such a delay by the Toronto LE before they considered LB murdered, I wonder if any LB DNA was collected from LB's parents house to match up with DNA evidence found? I remember that LE went to TB's house and collected items like his tootbrush for that purpose.

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now1 minute ago
Markovich is 52 yrs old. Lives in GTA. Unemployed. Has a criminal record. Last conviction 2005. He has one-word answers at this point.

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now30 seconds ago
In the spring, summer 2012 Markovich was managing an escort service, "Last Minute Escorts." Owned by "Shlomo." Or so the name sounds

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now1 minute ago
He started working with Schlomo in 2007. Escort service located on Mt Pleasant, near Eglinton. 672 Mount Pleasant.

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now18 seconds ago
His job: "set up business. Travel. Everything." Knew Laura #Babcock "from the agency." She worked there.

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now51 seconds ago
The last time Markovich saw #Babcock was June 27, 2012. She hadn't worked at the escort agency long he says. Maybe a month.

Maybe this is the guy who showed up the night Laura was "rescued" by the woman who lived by the park.

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now34 seconds ago
Markovich would drive #Babcock to work or to clients, he says. Thinks he maybe saw her 7-8 times in total. He's not sure.

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now34 seconds ago
The last time he saw #Babcock was after a job, 5-6 in the morning June 27. He picked her up, took her to hotel to get dog and stuff.

Shannon Martin‏ @ShannonMartinTV now1 minute ago
Having some internet issues within the courtroom. Hoping to get re-connected to the live blog shortly

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now26 seconds ago
Markovich says #Babcock's friend couldn't meet as planned so he drove her to the agency after the hotel.

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now46 seconds ago
"A small little yappy dog," Markovich describes #Babcock's pet Lacy. Court laughs. Laura had 4-5 bags to load in the car.

Shannon Martin‏ @ShannonMartinTV now45 seconds ago
The man drove Babcock around to jobs, but can't remember how many times. The last time he saw her was June 27, 2012.

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now27 seconds ago
#Babcock was supposed to meet up with someone, Markovich says, but couldn't get hold of the person.

DM should have hammered the point home about all these men claiming they let her stay with them give her money etc and didn't have sex with her. It's all lies clearly so drive it home so they lose credibility.

Apologies - had a brief internet fail.

Crown Ken Lockhart has called the first witness. The man was a driver for Last Minute Escorts, the company Laura Babcock worked for.

He drove her around, but doesn't remember how many times.

The last time he saw her was June 27, 2012.

I hear what your saying and I suppose we can all read between the lines, but I wonder if it is much the same as admitting if they pick their nose or masturbate. What they did on their "date" is not in question.

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now26 seconds ago
Markovich thought #Babcock was trying to get in touch with the next person she was going to stay with. "She was in limbo at that point."

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now1 minute ago
Markovich knows #Babcock friend Julia, who also worked at the agency. "She worked all the time." Saw her a lot more often than Babcock

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now1 minute ago
Julia lived in a Yorkville condo. #Babcock was living with her before moving to the hotel. "For awhile," Markovich says

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now11 seconds ago
"That's where she was staying when she was working," Markovich says. #Babcock.

Shannon Martin‏ @ShannonMartinTV now41 seconds ago
The witness tells the court Babcock was "living in limbo."

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now19 seconds ago
When they got back to the escort agency, "they sat around, talked." Just the two of them were there. #Babcock

Shannon Martin‏ @ShannonMartinTV now6 seconds ago
He describes picking her up from a hotel, she had luggage and her dog - "a small yappy one" with her.

Shannon Martin‏ @ShannonMartinTV now33 seconds ago
He took her and all her belongings back to the escorting office.

Babcock had been living with a friend, Julia, for a time. Court has heard Julia (no last name yet) was a high school friend who introduced Babcock to escorting. Julia also worked for Last Minute Escorting.
