Multiple people were reportedly shot Tuesday afternoon in lower Mahattan in New York City.

New York Police confirmed one person is in custody, and urged residents to remain clear of the area.

It appears several people were hit by a Home Depot truck around Hudson Street and Chambers Street shortly after 3 p.m.

At least five people were hurt, sources said. At least two people were killed. They may have been on bicycles.

Police in New York are investigating reports that several people have been shot in lower Manhattan.

There were also unconfirmed reports that several cyclists had been run over by a vehicle. One witness said a school bus had been damaged.

One person is in custody and police advised people to avoid the West Side Highway area of the city in lower Manhattan.

The sprawling crime scene runs several blocks along the West Side Highway.

A suspect, who may have been shot by police, is in custody. The New York City Police Department said no others are outstanding.

A truck hit multiple people on the bike path on the West Side Highway, a witness told ABC's New York station WABC. The truck crashed into a school bus at Chambers and West streets, near Stuyvesant High School, and the driver got out and opened fire, the witness added.

On Fox live it was said the bus driver intentionally cut off the truck to stop him. Possibly 11 injured on bus.
