VA - Nancy Wingfield, 55, found dismembered, Collinsville, 2 Jan 2006

Nighttime dig yields possible evidence in Wingfield case

    http://www.martinsvillebulletin.com/topstory.htm

Nancy Motes Wingfield, 55, was last seen Jan. 3 by her brother, James.

Henry County Sheriff's investigators unearthed what may be human remains outside Nancy Motes Wingfield's home Monday night, according to Maj. Kimmy Nester."We have found an article of great interest, of some significant size, which we believe may be potential physical evidence which may include human remains, covered and wrapped," Nester said around 11 p.m.
"We need further time to investigate," he added.

Officers and Henry County Public Service Authority employees set up lights and used a backhoe at Wingfield's home at 632 Murphy Road, Collinsville, around 9:30 p.m. Monday.

Nester would not say what led them back to the property in darkness or elaborate on the condition of the article that was found.

Police said Wingfield was last seen by a brother -- the same brother who ingested a liquid substance and is hospitalized at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.Nester said he did not have an update of the man's condition Monday afternoon, but "I understand he's still on a ventilator."

So the adult woman was killed and buried. And her bro possibly attempts suicide. Doesn't sound good.
This family certainly seems to have had a violent background.
Just when I think that I have seen the most depraved things a human can do to another human, somebody posts a new story...........

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

It looks like he offed his sister and tried to commit suicide when he realized his plan wasn't going to work.

    'Mutilated' remains found

    http://www.martinsvillebulletin.com/topstory.htm

Police believe that body parts unearthed from numerous burial sites Monday and Tuesday are that of Nancy Motes Wingfield, who has been missing since early January.
"We believe they may be the remains of Nancy Wingfield, but that has not been confirmed," said Henry County Sheriff's Maj. Kimmy Nester. "The body has been badly mutilated."

"We have a significant portion of a body. We believe we're dealing with one body that's been dismembered, mutilated," he said.

Nester said he could not be more specific on how much of the body has been found.

"Until we take the latest find, put it back together to see what we have ... ," he said, with his voice trailing off.

"It is as bad as it gets," Nester added.

First we had the Jennifer, Michael and Mary Short murders, which are still unsolved. Now we have this going on, all in about a 15 mile radius of each other. Neighboors of this latest event say the son of this woman dug trenches all day, and burned all night. He suppossedly was not "quite" right. Investigators have dug in many different area's during the past few days, and at this time, are still digging away. Everybody here is beginning to wonder if it really is just one body they are finding since they've been digging for so long and with equipment still being brought in, it looks like it's not likely to stop anytime soon.

I'm thinking it might be time for me and my family to find a safer place to live, if that is possible. We live in a small community, which in the past couple of years, is being compared to having a crime rate comparable to NY city, for an area our size. Guess it goes to show one should never feel too safe, no matter where you are!

    UPDATED-New Important Information!

The brother charged with first degree murder in this case is James Roland Motes, NOT Wingfield. Still no picture available yet.

Brother strangles sister to death, dismembers body and buries parts in 5 different locations

Sheriff’s officials have confirmed that the plastic-wrapped remains they have uncovered belong to 55 year-old Nancy Wingfield.
The also allege that Wingfield was strangled by her brother, who lived with her at her Collinsville residence on Murphy Road. Sheriff’s officials say James Motes Wingfield faces a first-degree murder charge when he’s released from a Martinsville hospital, where he was admitted after drinking paint thinner.

Investigators say six sets of Nancy Wingfield’s remains were found buried in several locations on and around the Wingfields’ property.

New reports are now coming in, but no links as of yet. But firsthand information that we have here, is the brother of Nancy Wingfield, James Motes Wingfield, has a prior criminal record in at least Las Vegas NV. Authorities here are also checking other area's Mr. Wingfield has lived to see if there are any other similar crimes that he may have committed.

Police are asking that anyone who knew of a James M. Wingfield, in or around Las Vegas or nearby areas, and know of any similar unsolved crime, to call the sheriff's office at 638-8751.

I will post a picture as soon as our local stations update their pages!

Was he living in the area when the Shorts were killed? And did he have any connection to them?

The area this happened in was about 10 minutes from the Short family, but, he was living in Las Vegas at the time of the Short murders. PD state there is no connection at all.

    http://www.wsls.com/servlet/Satellit...=1137833700158

NewsChannel 10 has learned that Motes has been in trouble with the law before.
According to documents obtained by NewsChannel 10, in March of 1995, deputies with the Lee County Sheriff's Department arrested Motes for battery in connection with a misdemeanor domestic violence case.

This is in addition to reports that he has a criminal past in Las Vegas NV

    From July 2007:

    http://www.richmond.com/news/article...f8f14a8bd.html

A Henry County man who strangled his sister and chopped her into 19 pieces was sentenced to life in prison yesterday after saying he was remorseful.

James Alton Motes, 55, took the stand in Henry Circuit Court and said he killed his sister Nancy Wingfield because she was controlling and threatening...

Motes pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in April, admitting that he had killed his sister on Jan. 2, 2006, buried her body parts in five separate holes, washed down the crime scene with acid and burned evidence in a backyard bonfire.
